@Charris, I agree that you should see a neurologist ASAP.

I have low blood pressure and low blood sugar which results in fainting, for which my PCP has me drinking 4 bottles of real strength Gatorade a day. This has actually proven successful in keeping me conscious. I do NOT have any issues lifting my legs (despite the fact they are heavy/swollen), nor have I become dead weight, nor do I need a walker. These three additional symptoms you are experiencing are not associated with basic old-fashioned fainting spells. These need to be reviewed and addressed ASAP by someone who has a specialized understanding brain and nervous system.

Please, please, please go to a neuro! Sure, also go to hemo, endo - but neuro is key!

When I got weak after the DS dr K had me drinking Gatorade but I believe it was the lower sugar.

Well then...go to your insurance company's website, put in your info, and use their website to find a neurologist in network.

Make a list of when you have passed out and when you legs stopped working the way they should. Tell them that you have surgically induced malabsorption, and may have nutritional deficiencies. Have the info handy.

Call his office and just make a damned appointment.

IF THEY ASK...and sometimes they do...tell them that you do not have a referral because the health care providers you have seen so far are focusing on your low bp and not addressing the fact that you have no control over your lower extremities. So, you have a PPO and are referring yourself. Can they get you an appointment right away, or should you go through the ER and connect with him that way? Because the problems are worsening.

Admit that you have a number of symptoms that could relate to a number of causes...but the neurological symptoms are the most frightening and the ones that just cannot be ignored while you work out things that might be fixed with a couple of bottles of Gatorade.

Tell them that you have been told, by several people who have experience working with people with your symptoms, and are insisting that there are tests that a neurologist would order that may be crucial to resolving your problems. Please...an appointment any time this week would be good.

This sentence was in the wrong paragraph. It belonged in the what to tell the neurologist's office:

"Tell them that you have surgically induced malabsorption, and may have nutritional deficiencies. "

Just a note: Self referrals to a specialist, even under a PPO may end up with a PA not the MD but that is a starting point. Cause regardless of whether you can self refer or not, MOST specialists still want the PCP referral.

Ohhh! So that's why they ask and then look at me funny!?!?

But, I show up with my own records...and I smile.

As Kirmy stated these are neurological symptoms and seeing a Neuro is the right thing to do. It's too easy to blame everything on the DS. I have cared for people with low sugar and low blood pressure. Every one of them could lift their legs and get up from the toilet just fine. Be persistent!

I hope things are going better for you!

Well, I put it out there for all of eternity, on the world wide web. TAKE THAT, you people comin' to get us!!!:typing:
