Thank you! I'm out on the rig, but made the guys pumpkin cheesecake yesterday. No turkey though :( Happy Thanksgiving to all other Canucks!

@brooklyngirl Yep, it's the same thing, except not as big here. From what I hear you do it big style, almost as big as Christmas (correct me if I'm wrong). But yes, the stuffed turkey, pumpkin pie, family gathering- that's our traditional Thanksgiving. Apparently it was in thanks of a safe ocean journey taken by Martin Frobisher (Frobisher Bay is named after him) from Europe to Newfoundland in 1878.

It was originally celebrated in April, then switched numerous times o_O. Since 1957 it's been celebrated on the second Monday of October.

No Black Friday though, but we do have sales on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. But most people are back to work by then. Thanksgiving is today (Monday), but almost all families celebrate it on the Sunday (called Thanksgiving Sunday), and travel home/recover on the Monday. And watch football - the Thanksgiving Day Classic (CFL - Canadian football, which rules are slightly different to American football - less downs/players on the field, longer/wider field, just to name the obvious ones).

Thanks for the lesson, I love learning about the traditions in other countries :)

* and yes, for most families, it's as big as Christmas Day. In mine, it's actually bigger than Christmas Day since Christmas Eve is the extra big celebration for us :)

Isn't it time for the turkey sale too? I remember going to Whistler for the weekend to shop, great bargains!!

@newanatomy, we have sales on the Tuesday (but most everything is closed/holiday hours today) but I've not heard of the turkey sales - may be a BC/Whistler thing, or it could be that I'm out of the loop because I'm not a shopper :)
Thanks @JackieOnLine

My roommate took me out shooting today, found out that I'm a bit shooting disabled. I'm right-handed and cannot close my left eye to sight. Tried it with both eyes, nada. Finally we took one of my triangular bandages and covered my left eye with it so I could sight! I hit the target then, although I looked like a casualty/pirate :D

I found out that altho I am right handed, I am a left handed shooter cause I can not close my left eye to sight on the gun. I either close both (NOT a good option) or my right which means that I miss every time.

I was using a shooting range while in the National Guard...they were making sure I would not embarrass them. I was laying prone...and kept missing so the Top in the unit had me aim and then he stepped right in front of me but NOT in front of the rifle and looked at me...told me to switch sides so I was firing LEFT handed and I ended up shooting expert because of their help.

Shooting left handed when you are right handed takes some thought at first...it just doesn't FEEL natural. But once you get use to it, it does make a difference.
