Complications after 15 yrs post op

I am 15 years post op open RNY. Started gaining weight about a year ago, severe heart burn and pain. Surgeon found fistula and hiatal hernia. Meeting with her on Jul 17th for options. I am just looking for support and those of you who may have been through this.

If you are going to have to contemplate major surgery on your stomach/pouch anyway, you should consider revision to DS. And I would try to get it from one of the very very very few experts in the field, starting with Dr. Keshishian in Glendale CA.

Maybe Elariny in VA, but he’s an asshat about taking insurance for DS - he excludes it from insurance and makes the patient pay the balance of his charges that insurance doesn’t pay.

If I had to travel anyway, I’d go to the best.

Other options are Dr. Greenbaum in NJ, Dr. Boyce in TN.

New Jersey is pretty close so I will check that out. I do a yearly trip to TN as well so that may work.

No, not Greenbaum. Sorry but he is a chickenshit when it comes to stomach/pouch revisions. He often claims he doesn’t like how the person's pouch was cut and only converts to distal DS. I don’t trust him in pouch revisions, especially complicated ones (OP has a fistula too).

Dr. Keshishian’s office is in Pasadena, not Glendale.

Oops ... the hospital is in Glendale?

I think he used to have an office in Glendale. My revision surgery with Dr. K at the end of July will most likely be at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena. But the EGD I had with him in May was done in Sherman Oaks.
