This is not results for me but my sister who is 78. I am taking care of her and she has been having issues with several things. Some of which are a little scary (a different issue entirely) but for now I just saw the this results on her records and her follow up with the kidney doc isn't until April 20th. It doesn't look bad to me but don't know anything about this at all. Thanks

Final

BILATERAL RENAL ULTRASOUND, Mar 03, 2015 04 0 PM .

CLINICAL HISTORY: 585.3 chronic kidney disease stage III.

TECHNIQUE: Gray-scale and color Doppler imaging was performed.

COMPARISONS: None available.

FINDINGS: The kidneys are of normal size and echogenicity bilaterally.

The right kidney measures 10.9 cm, and the left kidney measures 11.1
cm in length. There are 2 cysts in the right kidney. There is a cyst
in the superior mid aspect of the right kidney measuring 3.1 x 2.6 x
2.7 cm. There is a septated cyst in the inferior aspect of the right
kidney. It measures 2.7 x 2.1 x 2.6 cm. There are no defined left
renal masses. No hydronephrosis is evident. There are no perinephric
fluid collections.

The bladder demonstrates normal distensibility. There is no wall
abnormality present. No significant postvoid residual. The prevoid
volume of the bladder was 59 cc. Bilateral ureteral jets were
demonstrated.

SUMMARY:
1. No hydronephrosis of either kidney.
2. Cysts in the right kidney.
3. No significant postvoid residual.

I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chime in, but it doesn't sound terrible to me either. There is no indication the cysts are "suspicious" or other words I cannot recall being ominous. They are kind of big - over an inch square each - but the radiologist didn't remark on anything remarkable.

Also - I found this: http://www.patient.co.uk/health/polycystic-kidney-disease

"Note: it is common for healthy people, especially older people, to develop, one, two, or even a few harmless cysts in a kidney. These usually cause no problems and are not due to polycystic kidney disease."

Renal cysts are very common and this is nothing to worry about. She could have gone the rest of her life without even knowing she had these cysts but for the ultrasound, and nothing bad would have come of them.
