did you agree to this? because it's your body. There are a lot of reasons why the DS is a better surgery, albeit one that takes a surgeon longer and is therefore less profitable.

But if you are OK with this, then at least it's your decision.

The more malabsorbation and lot more complications

There ARE tradeoffs. You have to pay attention to your labs and supplement accordingly.

BUT, that malabsorption, which is what KEEPS the weight off, lasts a shorter time with the bypass.

My DS was almost 20 years ago. I weight 177 pounds less than I did pre-DS…less than at any time in my adult life INCLUDING right after Army basic training. Many (most) of my friends who had the bypass when I had the DS regained their excess weight…or most of it…long ago.

The biggest mistake you can make right now is to rush into any surgery. Good luck!

my understanding is that the malabsorption of nutrients - the reason you have to take supplements based on what your labs show - is lifelong for both surgeries whereas the malabsorption of fat/calories (or what you need to lose weight and keep it off) is lifelong for DS and temporary for the bypass, maybe 1-2 years.

But I decided against both surgeries and had the VSG only, so I hope others will correct me if I'm wrong.

I also know it's important to keep your pyloric valve, something both the VSG and the DS do.

We do wish you the best @Tmendez67, but also hope you make such an important decision based on all the facts, something that is often missing in our experience.

Heck, back when I was choosing which surgery my MD, an otherwise excellent doctor, thought the lap band was the "least invasive" surgery and that's just not true.
