Hey everyone,
I am a newbie and am excited to meet you! I am 56 years old and married to a wonderful man for the past 30 years. Even though he is very supportive I am needing help from people who is either going through this now or has already been through it and knows what's happening. I have tried for years to get approved for my surgery, which I chose the DS, but my husbands company would never do it. So I decided to do it myself!! I told my husband this is no more expensive than if we had to go buy a new car...how do you like that analogy? Our children have left the nest and it's back to just us two and I want to be able to travel, ride a bike, go camping, go dancing To be a couple again..So here I am only 8 days away from my Liver Diet for a week, then its the liquid diet and my surgery is June 8th and I am so nervous and excited at the same time.

Welcome! It's a great decision. I was self pay too. Best money I ever spent. I did go to Mexico to save the money, if you want to know more, we can talk about it. Lots of people here have gone to MX to save some money. Mine was 11k vs. 35K in the States.

But, I suspect NC is less.

Double check with your surgeon as to whether or not he's doing the standard of care DS with 2 anastomoses, or doing the experimental (he may disagree on that word but I stand by it) loop DS/aka SADI/aka SIPS/aka a few other names, with one anastomosis. Long term results for this procedure are not well documented, the ASMBS doesn't consider it standard of care, and there is, to m knowledge, no insurance code for it, so some surgeons are using the DS code incorrectly. Some surgeons are very honest about what they are doing. Others have patients who only figure out much later, when their results aren't as expected, that they didn't get the operation they thought they were getting. It's sad that patients have to make sure of this kind of thing, but that's the current reality.

Good call. This is from his bio, "Dr. Enochs recently added the Sleeve Gastrectomy with Single Anastamosis Duodenoilial Bypass (SIPS/SADS/SADI-S) to the arsenal of procedures he performs. This procedure is one of the latest advancements in bariatric surgery and provides patients with increased weight loss as well as may resolve type 2 diabetes altogether. Most patients currently undergoing this procedure with Dr. Enochs are participating in a multi-center year long research study."
