She is built like her dad, so she probably won’t have any weight issues until her late 30s/early 40s. I think she’s built like...a future Drum Major.

But this all so unfair. MiniSue once mentioned that when there were large-ish family gatherings, all meat dishes, cold cuts, cheese plates, etc were vanquished and there were always leftover cookies, cupcakes, fudge, cakes and pies. So this must be a genetic issue.

We have this kid after school every other week. Her nickname is Bella. She’s always good for an afternoon snack and MrSue calls it “Bella Kibble.” One reason my weight never got down to “normal” is the constant presence of sugar heavy junk food...mostly candy, cookies, ice cream....and it’s only present until I find it...yeah, I know.

But what does THIS kid want for Bella Kibble? Oh...salami, olives, jicama, pickles (she prefers dill), blueberries, and occasional strawberries. She WILL scream with delight over a TINY BIT of canned whipped cream on the strawberries. For comparison purposes, when I was two years old and my grandfather (the Latino one, and “Tata” is a Spanish nickname for dad- and grandfather-types), I’d run to the door yelling, “Cookies Tata, Cookies Tata!” because he was always carrying...lol.

This is genetic. I demand that genetic researchers find and modify the sweet-craving gene.

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

I hear you.

with me it's more straight up carbs that don't necessarily have to be sweets. white toast with butter is fine, too. you want to give me jam or brown sugar to put on it also, that's OK, but also chips and mashed potatoes and...well, simple carbs. the simpler the better.

now that I look back I did prefer sweets when I was a kid - and a teenager - not so much in my, um, maturity.

I was raised on very, very healthy diet - tons of veg and no added sugar. Baked goods only on very special occasions. We had two marathon runners in the household and my parents were hyper-focused on nutrition. I love bread and sweets nonetheless. Perhaps it is rebellion.
