Some of those kids were unaware of their parents’ actions. How must they feel today? Yesterday, they—along with the rest of the planet—learned that their parents are convinced that they just “don’t have what it takes” to get into the college thay want(ed).

And, if there are reasons that the parents have come to that conclusion, then WTF are they expecting when their kid gets into the school? I GUESS they are planning to “help” the kid through all of his/her classes? The point of which will be __ (?)

[And this just reaffirms my notions about what college sports have become. They (income-producing athletic programs and colleges) belong together as much as religion and politics belong together.]

I don't think it's the case these kids are finding out their parents think less of them. More like these kids are raised entitled to have the best of everything and it's their MO to get it by any means possible as their birthright. They had to know they were getting extra time, or didn't have to show up for their SATs, or were coached in what to say and do at the psychologist's to be diagnosed with a disability.

For some time, I have concluded that college football and other sports are the equivalent of the farm teams found in MLB. I got my eyes opened at Ohio State on how athletes are treated. Sounds like that old saw about anything being available for the right price isn't a myth. I'm also suspicious that Loughlin and Huffman are the sacrificial lambs for higher rated celebs. As the higher ranking celebs probably bribed someone to keep them out of it. And the beat goes on.

A few were aware. But some of the parents also scammed their own kids...one—I forget which—even had the kid sit through a fake SAT.

ETA: from Rolling Stone...

8. Most of the kids didn’t know about the scheme.
In one particular depressing exchange, a parent asks CW-1 how to deal with her younger daughter, who is unaware of the alleged scheme and wants to raise her score legitimately. “So [my daughter] has said to me, ‘I’m gonna get a 34 on this ACT,’ or ‘I’m gonna keep taking it till I get a 34.’ And I’m like, [Daughter], what if you got like a 32 or a 33?’ She’s like, ‘W– no. I would take it till I get a 34.’ I don’t know if that’s true, but she’s ******* driving me nuts,” the parent says before adding, “I’m like– you know, I just want this one done. And I don’t know if she’s serious. Because she’s not scoring that well on these.”

What puppetmasters.

Unfortunately too many people believe anything is OK to get ahead if you have money. Everything should be easy and automatic. You should be able to buy an education if you have enough dough. Brains and or hard work have nothing to do with it. It cheapens the value of an education for the rest of us.

Meritocracy for us poors. But if you're a person of color and get into college because you earned it some people like to diminish it and say it was only due to affirmative action. There was a black girl who increased her scores by 300 points after taking a SAT prep course and a year and they said she was cheating. Too bad she didn't know she could have paid off a proctor or get in on this whole cheating scam! I'm also irritated by how hard it is to get accommodations on these tests when you're truly disabled and these bozos now made it harder for these kids because they didn't want to hear the words no. I'm pretty disgusted by all of it including legacies.

Read today that the tipster who blew the cheating mess wide open was in trouble for fraud unrelated to the cheating, BUT he thought he might get off easier in his case by blowing the whistle on the college cheating. Ya gotta love the American justice system. I hope everybody gets prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law but who the #(&( knows just what that might be?
