Hi folks -
I am two weeks out. I am pretty sure that I was "addicted" to simple carbs before the surgery. I am pretty good about getting my protein and water and hydration. I am frankly not eating a lot other than protein and water. But MAN O MAN I want some real sweet. Of course my diet guidelines are low-fat, high protein, limit carbs, etc. I do not want one more bite of sugar free jello or sugar free pudding.

I KNOW I can't live like I did prior to surgery, but what do we do for these cravings?

Glad you're switched!

No no, you want low carb, HIGH fat, high protein. (Low fat is for RNY, not DS.) But right now your innards are still healing. The cravings will pass. Especially if you make sure your keep carbs low, like <30 gr this early out. Each one of those sf jellos and puddings have 5gr of carbs, in addition to the carbs in protein drinks. That can add up. Too many carbs will make you want MORE carbs. If you want something sweet, try greek yogurt (lowest carb to protein ratio is Dannon Light and Fit GREEK, but still these have 8-9 gr of carbs)

I didn't have any cravings for sweets really for a good 3 months but I sure do now. I eat way more carbs and food in general than most because of my malabsorption issues due to my original DS being done improperly leaving me too short of an alimentary limb. I was revised and it is improving but the original guy ducked me up and it is taking a while to recover.

As Liz mentioned, too much fat early will tear you up and so will too many sweets, but as your guts heal that changes. Hang in there

Sugar free Jell-O has zero carbs. As long as you tolerate artificial sweeteners, it is a free food. The sugar free puddings have carbs, so does milk. Those need to be added to your total.
