Out of curiosity, why do some of y'all dislike this procedure? Aside from being 13 years old in the U.S. and not much information around the interwebs about it.

It’s not that we don’t like it. What we didn’t like and still don’t are the fraudulent statements by surgeons in trying to pretend it’s better than the DS or IS the DS, committing fraud with insurance, and misleading patients.

The procedure itself is great for the right people. In fact, most of us hope it replaces the RNY. That would be a blessing to get rid of a surgery with that damned pouch and have one with a sleeve instead.

But even the father of the SADI, a Turkish doctor said not everyone was suited for it. In fact, his criteria for picking his patients for the DS versus SADI was based on metabolic issues like diabetes. If someone was diabetic or pre diabetic, he gave them the DS automatically.

It sounds great because they say it won’t mess up how your vitamins are absorbed as much, etc, but by leaving a longer channel, it also allows for you to gain weight back easier and/or never get it off to start with and that’s crucial to a high bmi surgical candidate. No one wants to do a surgery to have it only be good for a few years.

this is so important to understand: they want to give you a surgery that is better than the Rny, but that is a low bar for someone who has diabetes

On the one hand, the SADI is a big improvement over gastric bypass, both for weight loss and for diabetes. OTOH, it has less malabsorption than a DS, which IMHO potentially makes it easier to regain weight. Personally, I think that's a big deal.
It would be interesting to know whether or not your surgeon also does the DS. It's possible, even likely, that he has recommended for you the best option he has to offer. But that doesn't mean that it's the best option available.
