Hey, I live in the South...most people here do one of two things...swear BY velveeta or swear AT it. My dh and I swear AT it. Would not upset either of us for it to disappear forever.

PS...there is no reason, ever, to buy or eat that "stuff." If you want cheese, eat cheese. This is what's in Velveeta:

Milk, water, milkfat, whey, milk protein concentrate, whey protein concentrate, sodium phosphate; contains less than 2% of: salt, [[calcium phosphate]], [[lactic acid]], [[sorbic acid]] as a preservative, [[sodium alginate]], [[sodium citrate]], enzymes, [[apocarotenal]] (color), [[annatto]] (color), and cheese culture.

Really?

You'd eat that?

(Phone rang and I forgot I hadn't posted this part...lol)

But - it makes creamy cheesy sauce that my husband and kids love on broccoli (and that Romanescu stuff)! Is it OK if it is not food itself, but just an ingredient in cheese sauce?

Yep, I'd eat it. :) With rotel and ground beef and tortilla chips.... and in my cheeseburger soup. But I'll eat anything (at least once anyway)

HAH! Charles just brought me a choice of boxes of Velveeta hamburger helper for tonight - I' picked the Shepherds Pie.

I can't remember the last time we had hamburger helper...I know it was pre-op so that is over 3 years ago now.

I have OTHER things to use my hamburger with than Hamburger Helper...they are too carby now.

We at least increase by 50% or double the meat in the recipe (1.5- 2 lbs instead of 1), and depending on what it is, add a can of diced tomatoes. I eat it once; Charles eats the leftovers.

You are all right. But I love the stuff...whatever it is! And I do know how to make real cheese sauce. Velveeta is just so easy and effortless. And tasty.

I grew up having mac and cheese every Saturday for lunch. For decades that was Saturday lunch!

the fact that Velveeta has such a long shelf life tells me all I need to know.

Real cheese is my preference, especially extra old Canadian cheddar. Yum!

Havarti melts easily and may be a substitute. Or a quick butter/flour roux, add milk and grated cheese. It's the real thing
