Do you have any generics where the pharmacy has switched sourcing manufacturer with a different formulation? Are you possibly sensitive to some of the inactive ingredients?

The other night, it was my Citrical plus MgCit, and Citrical plus PDU pills (I first take two of my largish pills at a time, then the smaller ones). I've taken the same ones for years.

I went to my PCP yesterday, and he prescribed Zofran for me to take every night before bed - I took my first dose last night. We'll see how that goes. I see the GI doc on Friday. I feel a barium swallow study coming, and I'm already gagging ...

GI doc doesn't think there is a structural problem. He says I'm taking my protonix incorrectly, so I'm going to try fixing that first. I take them with the rest of my pills after breakfast and just before bed; he wants me to take them 1/2 hour before breakfast and 1/2 hour before dinner. I have set my alarm to go off at 7 AM and 6 PM. We'll see how that works.

OK, the Zofran has worked pretty well, though it is SUPER annoying that even though my doctor wrote the script for every night, my insurance will only cover 18 pills per 24 days, unless I’m on chemo, radiation or have hyperemesis gravidarum, so I have to pay for the extra pills.

I am pretty reliably taking my Protonix as prescribed, by setting my phone to remind me of a “sleep schedule” of 7 am and 6 pm.

But, at about 5 am this morning, I had one of the worst bouts of nausea, spitting up and dry heaving. It went on and on for at least 20 min. There wasn’t but a tablespoon of anything that I actually brought up from my stomach - it was empty. I had taken the Zofran at about 11 pm, and the rest of my pills about an hour later.

I don’t know what to think about this nonsense. I REALLY REALLY don’t want to have nausea and dry heaves immediately post-op from my hernia/abdominoplasty surgery.

Correct. You need to get this fixed befire you die of post-op hyperemesis. (Is that a word? I just winged it like I do in Spanish.)

I will ask for extra Zofran from the surgeon. Good point.

At least while you're in the hospital, IV Zofran works better than the ODTs. I had hyperemesis when I was pregnant and learned that pretty quickly. I suppose there's no chance your insurance will cover a Zofran pump since they're stingy on the tablets though. Hope you get answers and feel better soon!

I will add IV Zofran to my pre-op list of must-haves. Post-op puking is the WORST. And because I have a family history of malignant hyperthermia, I can't use the new and improved anesthesia drugs - and the old ones are worse for nausea.

So I’m now in a standoff dance with my insurance company over access to Zofran. I can only get 18 pills per 24
days of the solutabs, but they will pay for regular tablets to fill in the rest.

Tonight, I took a regular Zofran tablet along with some of my other night time pills. And promptly barfed it up. So now I’m going to be short, because I took a solutab as soon as I stopped puking.

I’d really like this pointless puking (or feeling like I need to) to stop.

Oh no - this hasn't abated? I use OTC emetrol for Hannah - who is the resident puker in my household - have you given this a try? For her, it is more effective for travel sickness than stomach bugs. It does cause a delay in puking for the latter, though - might buy time for digestion of a regular Zofran tablet.

Have you checked the formularies of all the Medicare plans you are considering? This may be a short term problem, right?
