…like DianaCox and hilary1617 and others… or, like JackieOnLine and CaraOC , working with some folks w/dementia?

There are many online free videos that Teepa Snow has shared online. (You can go to youtube.com and search on Teepa Snow.). But this thirty minutes, meant to train caregivers, will help anyone who interacts with someone whose brain is being destroyed by this horrid condition.

And a remiinder for anyone lurking here who has a loved one in a facility.

If your loved one has a condition that requires the use of (especially opioid) pain relievers and STILL complains about pain..get yourself one of those at home drug test kits that (mostly) parents use to make sure that their kid is not using drugs. Use it on your loved one. There have been cases of drugs being checked out, listed on the residents’ records as administered, and yet no evidence of those drugs show up in the residents’ drug tests.

When the person in charge of administering drugs is working at a job that is not very glamorous, often involves close contact with uncooperative “strangers,” and is getting paid a pittance...and street prices are sky high...things sometimes disappear.

I have very nice housekeepers. I get the same ladies each time. They get regular paychecks from their employer, I tip them well and always provide a Christmas bonus. I also hide my Percocet before they get here. That prescription, 120 tablets of 10mg Percocet costs me $5.00. Street value is $1200. You know...even a nice person, with no insurance and a kid who has Type 1 Diabetes...can get desperate.

I need to check these videos out.

My 85 yr old father had several strokes a couple of years ago; he also has dementia, A-Fib, Parkinson’s, & NPH for which he had shunt surgery 6 months ago; he’s doing so much better and is being cared for at his home by my sister & I. Very challenging but once I found him a better neurologist, he was properly diagnosed and is being treated for all of his neurological conditions; and that doc recommended a phenomenal neurosurgeon & neurologist at UCLA who thoroughly tested him for NPH and did the brain surgery plus follow up care.

Finding the right medical doctors is so important for our elder parents, as is getting the proper treatment/Rx plans. Dad used to take way too many prescriptions that caused side effects, which worsened his cognition and balance issues.

Is North Shore Senior Center in Bothell, WA? And has it been cancelled or rescheduled yet due to COVID-19?

This particular North Shore Senior Center is in Northfield, IL (www.nssc.org). They're closed through at least April 17, but haven't cancelled yet. They're starting to offer some fairly interesting remote learning in later life courses for FREE:
