Something I wish I had known before getting yorkies, was that they would find the cat litter box to be the Cookie Jar. As in, "I enjoy eating the feces of other species". Yeah, disgusting. And because of their similar size to the cats, there was no way to raise the litter box to a height they could not reach.

Yorkies aren't the only dog breed to do that. That is why the cat boxes in our house are on other side of baby gates that our dogs respect.

yep, when cats jump into our yard to bury their poop my dogs are SO happy: Easter Egg Hunt!

I used to live with cats and all of that is SO true.

So true about the baby gates (or as my late father called them, "dead chickens"). Alas, my 18 year old cat could no longer jump.

I have a 13 year old cat who has taken to climbing over the gates, not jumping. But 99% of what she needs is on just one side of the gates. Including me many hours of the day.

wait, why Dead Chickens??
Because of the difficulty in getting them to work. Like propping a dead chicken up. Impossible. Maybe you had to know my dad. He had a really sick sense of humor, very dark. He enjoyed teasing people, but in a really mean way. One time I had a wasp crawling on my back. He wouldn't swat it off, but just laughed hysterically at my predicament. I was in my 30's at the time. He also once told my cousin (she was "big boned") to "Jump, I'll catch you", when we kids were on the swings. We'd jump, he'd catch us in mid air, cleanly. Except he stepped cleanly to the SIDE when she jumped. Then, when she hit the ground and cried, he said "You didn't think I was gonna catch YOU, did you?" And he laughed like a loon. Very sick sense of "humor". Today it would be called child abuse.

Our "filtering" issue is trying to feed three cats with different dietary needs separately. One is way too fat, one is voluptuous (and finicky) and the last is lithe, lean and pukes from wolfing his food down (I don't know why - they are fed on separate plates and the fat ones actually just nibble, so he shouldn't worry about them eating his food). Well, I guess if we start taking them on trips in the RV, it will upset their routine anyway, so there's no dealing with it now!

Diana, check the food you are giving them, esp the one who pukes. We have one who is allergic to the red dye found in MOST dry cat food. Why in the hell they add it is beyond me as cats do not care how pretty it looks, just that it tastes good.

Our labradear eats from a "slow down" bowl. It's got partitions in it so she has to work at getting the kibble, which slows her down. I've seen them in tiny versions, for small dogs. Would that work for your cat?

We had a fat cat and a skinny cat. Funny thing, the skinny cat would let the fat one eat his food. Grey Slob was dominant over Tigee, but only with food. Otherwise, Tigee was boss.

The fat ones don't seem to eat that much - it's the skinny energetic one who eats a lot and pukes. We've got them on a small amount of pouch food in the morning, which they never finish after lapping up the gravy, and a healthy dry food ad lib, which does not seem to be more than a cup per day eaten between the three of them. They are photosynthesizing?

Check the protein content. I forget what the ideal is, but it's got to be perfect. And a barfy cat is a symptom of hair balls. It probably won't be the cat with the long fur, either. Our short hair cat groomed the long hair one, and so had hair balls. The long hair one, Grey Slob, was aptly named. He never groomed himself. After Tigee died of bowel cancer, I had to bathe that stupid cat. I have NEVER seen a cat NOT groom itself, except him. But he was the gentlest cat ever.

They are all long-haired Maine Coon mixes, and they all groom each other - it is Cat-Stock over here - free love and all. In order to "minimize" the issues, I get their undercarriages (bottom of the chest to up the butt area) shaved every few months, and Onyx gets a bath (he's got itchy skin), plus I have them furminated, and I curry-comb them once or twice a week. AND they get hairball treats once a week. So I think it's just that Loki binge-eats and then pukes. And then goes back for more. I have NO idea how the other two stay fat - they both appear to be nibblers who are not seen eating that often, nor for very long when they do eat. Though I probably give them too many treats when we have "treatie time" twice a day.

Once this Giants-Nats game is over I'm going to PetSmart to buy harnesses and leashes for them, to get them used to wearing them before their playpen arrives; we will let them get used to the playpen INSIDE, and then we will start getting them used to going OUTSIDE in the playpen. I want to take them with us in the RV.

Guessing the kitties never got their harnesses because this game is NEVER GOING TO END!
