Iron Help

Here are my latest results. I have been taking more iron, so I guess it's not working anymore? Although, now that I'm looking back at my results, I can see my levels have been dropping since the surgery. I'm supposed to go back to my PCP on June 6 to go over these results. Should I ask to be sent to a hematologist? My IRSAT is 16%, with the other values within normal range.

I do think a request for a referral to hematologist is in order! Some of us just don't absorb iron well orally and instead get infusions from time to time.

I get iron infusions every time my labs get puny. (Maybe every 10-14 months.) I make two visits, a week apart, to the hematology place. The actual iron infusion I use takes +/-20 minutes, but there’s set up time. I’m good with this product, so they don’t have to give me Benadryl or observe me afterwards AND…my insurance covers it so it’s cheaper than OTC iron.

It’s a piece of (gluten free) cake!

Ok, your ferritin is in great shape but the rest are terrible. Only a hematologist can tell you what’s best.
