"winter" here in Southern Oregon has been laughably mild - I seriously have seen 2 neighbors mow their lawn already. the grass is not growing (drought) but it's still greenish.

how's the weather where you are?

In So. Cal they keep teasing us with the possibility of rain but I don't think we've hit 1" for the season. Definite drought here but thankfully we aren't freezing like much of the rest of the country.

There's probably a foot or more of snow out my door, huge mounds of it everywhere from the snow plows. My kids have been kicksledding to school almost every day this winter, which means, to their delight, the sidewalks are not clear. Right now it's clear, sunny and 14 F, with a "feels like" temperature of 3 F. Expected high is 18 F and low of -5 F. I'm very glad to have purchased a long, warm coat a few weeks back...

That is a kicksled, or "potkukelkka" as it is called in Finland where my husband and I first discovered them. It is kind of like a dogsled or moreso a kitchen chair strapped to a pair of cross country skis. Lots of fun. Usually one kid sits on the "chair" and the other (or my husband) pushes, but sometimes they take two sleds and they use them individually like a scooter by standing with one foot on the footrest on the rail/ski and pushing off with the other foot, transporting their backpacks on the "chairs". Every member of our household has his/her own sled, even me. We're dorks, but it is very fun. All ages, including elderly people use them in Scandinavia as they are very stable. I even used mine at my highest weight. It's nice to have a seat on hand when tired and much less effort and less likely to result in a fall than cross country skis. :)

Those are cool!

We have been polar vortexed for much of the winter and are expecting 6+ inches of snow tonight/tomorrow. I love it, having grown up with no real seasons in north Florida. I just wish they wouldn't cancel school so frequently!
