I work part time at a psych hospital. I'm rarely that as I do mobile assessments. Tonight, I had to deliver some paperwork because the fax machines were down. While there, an intruder got in the building (I'll be honest, I was thrilled at the excitement, my life is normally professional and boring). I was put in charge of letting the cops into the building which is always on lockdown due to people trying to get out.

Well, in between escorting one cop in and going to let the next one in, I tripped on a rug that wasn't flat. I landed full force on my elbow (abrasion), hip bone (abrasion through my jeans) and I think I may have cracked a rib. 4 years ago, I would have had enough padding that I wouldn't have been hurt at all except the unprotected elbow. I didn't bother going to the doc since even if I really did crack a rib the only thing they would give me would be pain pills. I'll just take some ibuprofen and suffer a bit.

I'm sore. I'm embarrassed since the only thing not recorded in the building are the bathrooms. My less than graceful flop is on film somewhere :(

Actually, when I hold my daughter, I miss her melting into my bountiful body so I guess this is the second thing. I wouldn't change anything but I really wish tonight I had been a bit more padded on the hip bones and ribs...

Moving furniture. I can't do it nearly as easily by throwing my weight into it.

And actually, you might have broken a hip or shattered your elbow rather than received some bruises, because of the weight of your body adding to the force of the fall.

True. Hadn't thought about that. I'm sitting here now because I know how bad it's gonna hurt to lay down. My stomach was so big it probably would have taken most of the blow, always did in the past. Fat or not so fat, I've always been a klutz.

You are right, I can't use my weight to push furniture. I also always felt safe because I knew if I could get an attacker down, I could plop on them and easily kill them. Now...I might be lucky enough to take the wind outta their sales or just piss them off.

Even with a cracked rib, it will be so much easier for you to recover from this fall now than it would have been if you were still MO. I still remember, back when I was pre-op, reading so many people's stories where they would have some minor injury from a fall or slip and just not be able to recover for literally months...during which they gained more weight because they couldn't do what little exercise they had been doing before. We're not talking broken bones here, just stuff like a sprained ankle from tripping on a stair, or something equally minor. Yet for an MO person, these injuries are not minor at all.
So while I agree about the cuddling of your daughter part, and the moving furniture aspect, trust me, you are far better off with your fall now than you would have been before. Oh, and the caught on film part - less embarrassing as well.

LOL. Yeah, I think I was feeling sorry for myself last night. I still hurt this morning and didn't sleep well but I'm on the mend and my plans for the day are continuing as planned. I just took an Advil and it will kick in soon :)

Wish I had remembered I was on camera and I would have turned to it and taken a bow.

Forward to an amazing day :)

I'm taking one advil every four hours and as long as I don't cough, hiccup, move to the left or sneeze, it's more than manageable. Went out to rib eye for lunch and now I'm going to get my nails done. Thanks for the good wishes, makes me feel important :) I'm gonna be fine, I was just on the pity potty last night. With ribeye, I'll be on the real potty soon ;)

Hope you feel better. I would feel better if you got checked out just to make sure. If it is just a cracked rib that it's going to heal the way it should. You must have a huge pain tolerance to say just a broken rib. About 12 years ago, I would ask anyone big enough to grab and squeeze me to crack my back. We'll yeah this one guy did and I heard CRACK went to the doctor 3 broken ribs. It hurt something crazy my doctor prescribed me liquid morphine, It didn't help! Finally I would take the Morphine and muscle relaxer just to go to sleep so I wouldn't be up just obsessing on the pain! Get better

Thanks, but I really think the worst I did was a crack. I've thought about the way I fell, I arched my back and I remember taking a deep breath. All my life, the most padded part of my anatomy was my stomach. The reason my hip and ribs got the worst of it was because I instinctively jutted my non-existent stomach out to protect myself. I distinctly remember the blow to the corner of my lower left rib cage when it hit the floor. It did take me three hours to get dressed this morning, I'm such a wimp.

As long as my teeth or feet aren't involved, I do have a high pain tolerance. I took Advil after my c-section and only took the codeine after my surgery because they told me it would control nausea. I never had pain from my bariatrics and the only time the c-section hurt was the first day when I stood up. After that it was more of an ache. I did have a migraine after my surgery and they knocked me out with something that started with an F. Now, if my teeth are involved or feet, I want MORPHINE and whatever the F drug was. A little opium and probably some meth and heroin, those are two places I don't want to hurt ;)

It's odd because when I eat, my rib cage hurts more. I guess my stomach is expanding and making the ribs move or something. Everyday it's not as uncomfortable as the day before so I think I'll be fine. The only thing a doc will give me is drugs, I can take Advil with the same results. I may break out my Celebrex for a couple days, hadn't remember I had those. Anti-inflammatories are my drug of choice LOL

Thanks for the well wishes :)

My negative thing was scaring my husband.

He rolled over in bed and flopped an arm in my general direction. His arm landed my hip bone. Bone? BONE? His bed partner did not have any unpadded bone!! He sat bolt upright, panicked about who was in his bed!

Feel better soon.

Hahahah. First time I felt that hip bone I thought I had a growth... Did you accuse him of sleeping with boney strangers???

FYI. I finally couldn't take the pain. I went drug seeking. They took an xray and while I didn't crack or break any ribs, they somehow through an xray can tell that I have contusions of the chest wall?? They gave me tram a dol (the word was banned?) and told me to take it easy. No prob. It hurts to move, I'll take it easy and breath deep so I won't get pneumonia.

Next time I'm a gonna roll when I fall LOL

Good move, getting expert opinions.
