Had the most WONDERFUL dinner with my family tonight. We ate at a new-to-me restaurant and it was amazing:

We had and mostly shared (five adults and one kid):
- Shoestring French Fries (amazing spices)
- Bacon-Gouda Mac N Cheese: Lots of smoked gouda, fried bacon & green onions sprinkled liberally with potato chip 'breadcrumbs' (two bowls)
- Citrus Glazed Crispy Pork Belly: Country style black eyed peas, cucumber 'raitha', cumin vinaigrette
- Angry Tiger Prawns: Sautéed with chilies, garlic, white wine & parsley served over exceptionally creamy polenta
- Roasted Beef Marrow Bones: Caramelized shallot vinaigrette, gremolata, toasted breadcrumbs
- Grilled Bone-In Pork Chop: Butchered in house, polenta, sautéed brocolinni, bacon-green apple glaze
- The New Yorker: 12oz. Strip steak au poivre sauce
- The Firehouse Cheeseburger: Hand-formed, half pound, 100% ground chuck, on a toasted bun with special sauce & white cheddar (for Charles)
Amazing cocktails - I had this: Dark & Stormy: The Kraken Spiced Rum, Fever Tree ginger beer, lime juice
I cannot even BEGIN to tell you how delicious the marrow bones were - three HUGE bones that my stepdaughter and I split - greasy savory deliciousness. I love marrow bones, but I've only ever had them stewed with a pot roast - I have a whole new love.
We came home and had cake (it was supposed to be white cake with strawberries and whipped cream frosting, but the bakery screwed up and made it with chocolate cake and forgot the strawberries on top, but Charles bought more of them and we just added them ourselves - and it was oddly good), and what is our family tradition for adult birthdays - lots and lots of cards. One of my son's cards was the best (though there were several close runners-up):
This one of Charles' cards was left unsigned, because it is destined to be recycled:
