I don't understand why I didn't see this post til now when you posted it on Friday - I've been here and clicked on "new posts" ??
Helpful visuals on spread and mitigation

I do NOT understand why people think they are safe to eat and drink in restaurants/bars! six feet away and staff disinfecting surfaces are not enough when you have to take your mask off!

And this just in... My dad is on the second floor of memory care. It shares staff and kitchen with the first floor...

People keep saying they can do what they want and it won't impact those who are high risk, if high risk stay home. But they are impacted. :( Dad is a big fall risk as when nature calls, he tries to stand up to get get to the bathroom and forgets his legs aren't strong enough.

"COVID-19 Update: November 2, 2020

Dear Residents, Families, Staff and Private Care Givers,

At this time, we have 8 COVID-19 cases in our Community. In Assisted Living, we have 1 COVID-19 cases, Memory Care has 7 active cases. At this point in time, all residents on the 1st floor at memory care have some type of exposure. We wanted to reinforce what you already know, that our utmost priority is, and always will be, the safety and well-being of our residents and team members. We continue to take precautions to mitigate the spread of the virus and to work with health officials.

Currently, 4 of our dedicated team members have tested positive for COVID-19. Two of them tested positive in the past week. We continue to conduct employee screenings, use personal protective equipment, and monitor for symptoms of and exposure to COVID-19. We kindly ask to respect the privacy of our team members affected by COVID-19.

We continue to evaluate our exposure at the community and find that its getting more difficult to identify the source. To mitigate the virus, we are canceling all activities (including outdoor visitation at Memory Care) and encouraging everyone to stay in their apartments as much as possible. The virus has impacted our community significantly and we need to take all precautions that are available. We will continue tray service delivery to apartments until further notice. Residents are welcome to walk the hallways with masks on at all times. Upon returning to apartments please wash your hands immediately and remember to sanitize any mobility equipment you might use, such as a cane, walker or wheelchair.

Memory Care operations have changed significantly with the number of COVID cases occurring over the past few days. We are trying to contain everyone to their apartment as much as possible. As you know, this is extremely challenging with dementia residents. All of our cases are located on the first floor and we are doing everything possible to contain it there. The staff have been amazing and supporting residents the best they can by visiting as often as possible. Overall, the residents are doing well on the first floor, while its not a normal operation, our goal is to help get everyone through the next couple of weeks staying as healthy as possible. Tonight, we have a professional cleaning company coming in to sanitize the entire building at Memory Care.

In order to keep you informed, I will send this COVID-19 Status Update each week on Thursdays as we receive new results after testing everyone at our community. This status update will include information as it relates to known current COVID-19 conditions in our Community. I will also continue to provide any updates regarding procedural reminders, and potential operational changes.

Please know that our dedicated front line team is working around the clock, showing their dedication to the Community and to our core HEART values: Hospitality, Excellence, Appreciation, Respect, and Teamwork.

As always, if you have other questions or concerns, please reach out to me directly. As we are all in this together, we understand that this is a stressful time for you. We truly appreciate your trust and understanding as, together, we navigate this evolving world health pandemic and focus on the safety of our residents and team.

Thank you for your continued support."

I would be beside myself. As difficult as it is to care for hm at home, which really isn’t THAT difficult so far, I am so glad he can be with us and not in a congregate living situation right now. I’m particularly glad he’s not still with his ladyfriend, who is in assisted living.

I'm so sorry, Hilary, you must be so worried for him. :5grouphug:
I would be worried sick. As hard as it was to lose my daddy, I’m glad he isn’t alive to go thru this.

It's scary. :( Thanks for the support.

People keep saying they can do what they want and it won't impact those who are high risk, if high risk stay home. But they are impacted. :(

I think these people are aware that those of us who are vulnerable will be impacted even if we stay home and they don’t care. Because if you remind them of just how vulnerable some of us are and how some don’t even have choices about who they have around them, their next statement is usually “We cannot live in fear” or something equally useless and annoying about the economy e.g. we’re disposable to them and it’s okay if WE die.

My mom lives in a retirement community with different levels of care and she just went out to dinner the other night with her lady friends from the same community. People have died already in their memory care and in the long term care part. But she is independent and has her own condo there. However she’s on oxygen too. I don’t get her at all. I seem to be more concerned about her than she is! She has TBI so her judgment is impaired but still. She will wear masks though out of care and concern for her neighbors so at least she is doing better than the rest of the masses.

You must be worried sick. I know we are entering a more risky time, but I also know that medical staffs are getting better and better at treating this virus.

Holding your hand from waaay over here.

Numbers have gone up and now they are very short-staffed, but we can't go help... Dad has a mystery bruise on the back of his hand and hasn't worn his hearing aids for two days. :( Still, no cases on the 2nd floor. In other sad news, my cousin passed away Friday night after a long battle with leukemia.

Thank goodness we have positive news and can look forward to 2021. Everyone please stay safe out there!

At this time, we have 18 COVID-19 cases in our Community. In Assisted Living, we have 4 COVID-19 cases, Memory Care has 14 active cases. We wanted to reinforce what you already know, that our utmost priority is, and always will be, the safety and well-being of our residents and team members. We kindly ask to respect the privacy of our team members affected by COVID-19. One of the 19 is expected to return next week as they have completed their quarantine period.

Currently, 7 private care givers in the community have tested positive...

Memory Care residents who are positive are all located on the first floor. We are hopeful that we can contain it to this area only. We currently have two residents at the hospital. Memory Care staff continue to do their best helping residents stay separate from others but also engage them and keep them moving. We are utilizing the therapy deparment as much as possible to keep residents active.
