Posting this will make it too real but here it goes....

I might be having symptoms of a small bowel obstruction again. NOOO! Monday night I had some interesting stomach pains that gave me a little concern. It was maybe a 5 of 10. It passed after about 30 minutes. I haven't eaten any hardcore steak or anything in the past 2 days. But I am getting the burps when I eat (not typical at all for me and was one of my ah-ha moments on my last SBO) and from 2-4.5 pain after I eat. I'm going to the bathroom just fine. I'm nervous to eat so my appetite is just not there. Most of the foods I have eaten have been soft (muffin, ravioli). If I don't eat then there is no pain.

Just let me say that I do know when it's urgent to get to ER. I don't want to die nor poop in a bag. It's not like that but it is something I need to address at least for peace of mind. I'm so stressed at the possibility of another surgery that I think that is making things worse. I called Dr Rabkin's office and talked to Matt. Dr Rabkin is not in my network and last surgery was not paid for by insurance. I've gotten denied for appeals for that and my $3200 ambulance bill that wasn't covered. I asked Matt if I should find a network surgeon or would Dr Rabkin still want to treat me. It was his belief that he would want to see me. He is having Rabkin call me.

It's never a good time for a bowel obstruction but this would be a really bad time for this to happen. My mantra because of my anxiety is simply "I can handle anything that comes my way". It brings me to the here and now rather than going off on tangents in my head. I guess I'll go prepare for the worst (pack, look for boarding for the dogs, clean the house...).

Please pray or send positive thoughts for us!! Thanks!

I hope it isn't a bowel obstruction but my suggestion would be to drive if you can, or have somebody take you, to the ER of a good hospital near by. Any good general surgeon can take care of a bowel obstruction. You don't have to have a DS specialist do it, especially if not covered. GO to an ER and hopsital system if you can that your insurance covers and they will probably do a CT and admit you if necessary.

Good luck and don't mess around if it gets worse at all

I hope it turns out to be nothing but recommend that you get it checked out. Surely you could get someone in network to order appropriate tests for you. If it is a SBO, you then have to make the big decision who to take care of it, but you're not at that point yet.
Keep in mind also that if an obstruction is from adhesions, often it will resolve without surgery. That still involves "bowel rest" meaning nothing to eat, IV fluids, and often a nasogastric tube, but it still beats surgery.

I will sure be sending my thoughts and well wishes your way. You are a wonderful Lady and my Family and I were honored to meet you and I will be hoping for some good news.

Oh no! Please get it checked out now at the local ER so you can be armed with information. Hoping so much it is not an obstruction and that it resolves quickly.

I agree with the previous posts, get it checked! I really hope it's something you can get resolved locally and in network. Sending good thoughts your way.

I talked to Dr Rabkin and we agreed it wasn't anything to be concerned with yet and that it appears to have worked itself out. I was so nervous about the possibility that I was making myself sick. Once I confessed my concerns to my husband, this forum and Dr Rabkin, I felt better once I wasn't keeping it inside. I decided to do a full meal and see what happens. I've had a few meals and not had any issues. Except some bloating, gas, weird stomach noises, burping. I think I might need to do some clean eating and a heavy dose of the top probiotics. Thanks for your concern and being there for me.

Glad you're feeling better!

If you are having cramping and bad gas and bloating taking a heavy dose of probiotic is the last thing I would do. As with everything I would preach moderation. For me probiotics make me bloat and give me gas and cramping so that's just me personally but I would be careful. I do think it's a good idea just to try to eat protein for the most part right now and limit your flowery type carbs two very reasonable about. Good luck

I don't want to cause any anxiety, but if you continue to have crampy pain and diarrhea it is possible that you have a hernia so if you continue to have that discomfort and changing diet doesn't help, I would stay vigilant with Rabkin. Hernias for people like us who have lost a great deal of weight are quite common. I had one last September (a year out from my original DS) and that same hernia/mesenteric defect was just fixed again when I had my revision on the 18th of August. The pain you are describing is very similar to what I had.

Now please, don't scare yourself into thinking you have a hernia just because you have some of those symptoms. It could very well be something your are eating, your probiotic or a combination, so my advice would be to try adjusting your diet and see what happens.
