Hello, I'm just about 2 yrs out. I started at 297lbs and now am down to 160lbs, goal is 150lbs. I had the BPD w/DS. I HAD type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol among other physical ailments, but most of all I couldn't keep up with my grandson playing, so I did alot of sitting out and just watching. This surgery has been a life saver for me. All the above have disappeared, now he ask to take a break...lol. I have a beautiful wife who has went thru this experiance with me as well as having the surgery herself. I cannot be a luckier guy then to have someone by my side that not only understands whats going on but is a great helpmate.

Hi Diane, My fave Charris (never realized your name is Clarissa... beautiful name!), Sarah! Somehow I'm verrry late to this welcome page!

I'm Liria. MsCello on other boards and plain old Cello here. The screen name is because many years ago (in the 90s) I designed and manufactured a (really nice) plus size clothing line by that name and when I had my RNY in 2000, a lot of friends, customers and acquaintances followed suit. I finally had a revision in 2012 and would imagine that someday, some of those people will show up here. For most of us who were heavyweights before RNY, it was absolutely the wrong surgery. Anyway, I'm working my way back to health and at nearly 2 years out from my revision I am actually starting to feel much better. Still physically weak, but much better than I have in several years. So that's me. Along with Liz (SouthernLady) who built this board and is truly our guru, I'm your other cruise director, aka Administrator....

If there's any way I can help, just say the word and I'll give it my best.

In the meantime, welcome one and all!

Welcome Mike! Looking forward to hearing more from you and getting to know your wife too. Is she here??!

Welcome, Mike:rainbowwelcome:
Glad you joined your wife over here. I told Sarah to get you in. We need more spouse teams aboard! My husband @Cbramsey is also a DS'er!

He is 5 weeks ahead of me and we are both 3 years out.

I agree, having your spouse walking the same path is a big help. Esp when it comes to meal time!

Liz

Hiya, I'm Roo. I always do things backwards! lol. I always post my face off and THEN introduce myself. Most of the vets know me so I assume this drivel would be boring, but I forget the forum is growing daily :) I won't announce my name here as friggen google and my unique name makes stalking ridiculously easy. If they wanna find me, I want them to at least have to work for it lol. (the hubz ex)

I'm crazy. I'm a yank living in the UK with my british husband, my cat Kasha and my dog Harley. We also have my stepson here often. I'm doing a distant degree in Social Science with a specialism in Politics. Ummmm lets see....I'm cripple at 35, weight loss seems to make it worse, but at the end of the rainbow is the promised hip replacements. I drive. yay! Got my UK licence 1.5 years ago. I do not drive in London...ever...it is NOT an option, lol. It's like LA traffic with montana or utah drivers lol. No thanks.

Anyways, if ya wanna know more...just find my posts...I've laid it all out there :)

@DuodenalSwitchaRoo

Roo:

I have to say that the above description of London traffic is one of the best I've seen! Funny that you should mention LA traffic, I grew up in Southern California cutting my driving teeth on *those* freeways and roads and London would be on my list of places I would never drive in and only partly because of the driving on the other side of the road issue! Thanks for the laugh! :D

It's not even the side issue....it's the insane, crazy, lane changing, van stopping randomly to unload, people cutting you off....oh hellllll no lol. When I go to the USA it feels "wrong" now lol, so Im fully used to driving in the left.....but London...no, lol...never ever ever.

Hello, all. I use the name "k90phile" because I love dogs. I currently have two sisters that are Chihuahua-dachshund-schnauzer mix. I did not utilize any type of on-line support when I got my DS. I became active on one and was both reviled and welcomed. Reviled because I dared go with an unvettted surgeon and blocked members who I cared not to read. (Can people have two accounts here and stalk someone who has blocked them? I hope not!) Yet I "met" a lot of great people both on-line and IRL who made me feel welcomed.

For the most part, I have done well and do not regret my surgery. No, I did not reach the clothes size or BMI I had hoped to, yet I achieved other goals such as losing several co-morbidities. I now have an active life instead of watching it go by. My big problem now is that I have retired and lost some of the structure I had to get my nutritional requirements met. I am building a new way to get that done. (And I will; my life depends on it.) I have been very open about my surgery and don't give a rat's patoot what others may think or say about WLS. It has saved my life.

It's good to see some friends here who I've known for a while and I look forward to making new ones.

Hello all, my name is Melanie. I was scheduled to have my DS consult in the morning, but Dr Boyce's office called today and cancelled for tomorrow morning, saying he was gonna be out of town. I am so disappointed! I had to go through a lot to arrange making the trip 5hrs away and for it to be cancelled the day before is a huge let down! When I returned the call, the main person said he wasn't going out of town and I got the strong impression that he was canceling the day because he only had 1-2 appointments on schedule. Not a good start. Haven't rescheduled yet.

I had a VSG in March 2010. HW 287/ SW 272/ LW 199. Regained steadily. Now I'm 279, just graduated in December with LPN and intend to work towards my RN slowly. The plan is to have the DS while I still have insurance that paid for VSG and will cover DS, recover, obtain a nursing position and relocate back to Nashville with my family. Living in a lil podunk town right now that is close to my parents and siblings. Gotta get out before we are scarred for life from the close-minded thinking and lack of diversity!!
