She is worthy! Early voting is now open here. The vote by mail options suck. We are expecting long lines. Gonna put on my big girl panties and deal with it.

How can Vote by Mail suck? You need doctor’s note, witness, notary?

 :danc:

And…I just,got my notification via ballottrax.co

It says:

This is a message from the Registrar of Voters. Your ballot for the 2020 General Election was received and will be counted. Thank you for voting!

Share that you voted!

Even AZ (or at least Maricopa County) has a simple, functional permanent mail-in ballot option, with tracking and notifications.

We received our ballots on the 9th, Dad got out of the hospital on the 11th, we filled out our ballots on the 13th, and I dropped them off the same day at the Goodyear City Hall (I’m allowed to carry them to the ballot box in AZ for all members of my household), which was just inside the front door under constant supervision.

I feel very comfortable with this way of voting. No standing in line. Perhaps a minute from car to drop box back to car. Everyone inside City Hall was masked. (And after almost 4 years of living here, I now know where my City Hall is :D.)

Mostly I think it sucks because I'm lazy. I seriously dislike completing forms. FWIW, I like the feeling I get from standing in line
at a polling station. I also admit to a little bit of paranoia about my vote not being counted. As you can see, there is really no logical reason.

Standing in line seems to contradict my plea of laziness. However, much of my life is determined by how I feel. I take voting seriously. Silly as it sounds, to me I'm not voting unless I'm at a polling place. Just thinking of voting in my first election (1972)* fills me with an obligation to adhere to my self-imposed requirement that I must vote in person. This may not explain it, but it's the best I've got.

* In 1972, I was living in Kent, OH, a scant two years after the students were shot. Nixon was President and Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth" was an anthem.

I usually request an absentee ballot since I am disabled but between voter suppression and the USPS running slow, I am going to go vote in person and maybe on paper. Hopefully I won’t need to stand in lines. What a country. Our elections are so corrupt.

Okay, maybe this is a cheat, but one time before my WLS I carried a cane. They moved me to the front. I didn't use it all the time, yet I knew waiting in line would be difficult. I've had my knee replaced since then, but there are times when I still use it. Mainly when I'm not in a store and can use a cart. Knees! If my weight didn't do them in totally, old age will.

I do use a cane when I need to walk long distances but I haven’t tried that for standing in line! Hmmm. Something to think about.

In Texas you can call the precinct and ask them to bring you a ballot to the car, but most of the time a number isn’t posted. The one time I walked in and asked someone to come out for my mom they looked at me like they didn’t know what I was talking about. Luckily someone knew what I was talking about and brought out a machine for my mom.

My first year was in 1993 and it was my senior year in high school. I had just turned 18 the week before and was so excited!
