Some of you know my history. I had a DS in 2002, a revision in 2010 to some kind of hybrid, RNY pouch, DS intestines with a 200 cc common channel.
Surprisingly my issues aren't really related to my WLS. The problem is I have had dozens of abdominal procedures and my insides are a mess and I have a chronic bowel obstruction.
I have just come back from 5 days of hell in the hospital while they left me in the dark about what was going on. This wasn't my first hospital admission.
The conclusion is that I have an obstruction and will need surgery to fix it but of course surgery is what caused the problem.
I have been getting my care at OHSU and I no longer have much faith in their care. I love my PCP but everything else seems to complicated. I have a specialist for every part in my body. I think my digestive tract alone has 3 specialists. It gets very confusing about who to see about what. And the communication between all of them is poor to say the least.
And the hospital itself is no Holiday Inn. The nurses are great but overworked. I only had my bed changed once when I insisted on it and the rest of the time I just did it myself because I didn't want to bother them. I never saw anyone clean the floor and only saw them clean the bathroom once while there.
And when I arrived by ambulance on Monday night I was out if it but I remember someone asking about my surgery. Next thing I know they are putting a tube down my nose into my stomach. I was too out of it to remember that I wasn't supposed to have a blind NG tube.
Anyway, I want to find better care and I don't know where to start. I thought a university hospital was supposed to be the best but it's not looking that way to me.
Anyone have experience and recommendations?

I wish I could but since this is an ongoing issues that has involved emergency hospital stays it wouldn't be practical. And I don't have the finances to travel there. I am not currently working and living on a very fixed income.
Do you think that either of them could recommend a surgeon down here?

I have no idea.

I'd tell you to ask Dina McBride, but IIRC, her Oregon surgeon(s) took down her DS and removed her entire stomach - I don't know if I'd want to go to him/her/them.

I am hoping one of the members here who live in Portland have some suggestions.

Taz, I am sorry for your issues. Not sure who lives in that area.

I realize Dr. K or Dr. Rabkin may not be possible but maybe they know of someone in your area that CAN help. I would email Dr. K and tell him what you are looking for.

Thanks. I think I will do that. I am just tired of having doctors make a big deal about me having WLS and then treating me as if I hadn't had it.
