HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DIANA!

Thank you everyone – I had a lovely birthday. While not an aficionado by any means, I had seen that the Glenn Miller Orchestra was playing in San Jose on my birthday, and I had asked for tix – a hint to my fellow 60+ers: there is NOTHING that will make you feel younger than going to a concert where you are the youngest in attendance by at least 15 years. There were busloads of people from local retirement communities, and a good time was had by all. The concert started at 3 and let out in time to make the Early Bird discount at IHOP.

My family and some friends came for dinner, which I did not have to cook (!), and I got a cake with only one representative candle on it, allegedly to prevent a conflagration. Our family tradition of getting multiple raunchy birthday cards from each person (plus the obligatory sappy one) was well-played. Reading them out loud is the highlight of our birthday parties. My 83 year old father’s risqué cards did him proud. And of course, my kids found some terrible SomeECards to post on my Facebook page:

And this is how we celebrate birthdays in the Age of Internets.

(My daughter's ex inlaws called me today - we are still friends - Orlando, who is in his late 60s, Salvadoran with a heavy accent and a wicked evil sense of humor, told me I should have called it my reverse sweet 16th - Dammit, I shoulda thought of that!!)
