Not sure being a full timer in an RV is wise anymore.

Well, our travel plans til November have changed drastically. We were due to head to VT originally, but that was after a stay at Rhinebeck, NY, because of an appointment with a neurosurgeon for Charles. His ventricular shunt May have either failed or needs resetting. Then VT closed on us so we contacted Rhinebeck about staying the summer. They were fine with it.

Then yesterday about 4:30, Dutchess County, NY where Rhinebeck is located, closed all private seasonal campgrounds in spite of Albany deciding to leave them open for full times/seasonals. So we’ve spent the day scrambling.

Now, Charles will be going back to the surgeon in Toledo who did his original surgery in 2006. While Ohio has closed private campgrounds, they remain open to those who do not have a house to stay in for this. We found one out on the west side of Toledo/Maumee that has room for us. Once we got that and his doctor appointment nailed down, we went to finding places to stay overnight. One us south of Clinton, SC on l26 where we’ve stayed before. Next one will be in Heiskell, TN, but just one night. The third one, we will moochdock with Missy (my sister) and her new husband on their 10 acre farm near Lexington. We will be practicing social isolation most of the time but social distancing at Missy’s (and not go in her house). Moochdocking is a form of boondocking but with friends or family. It’s also helped that we’ve been in social isolation this month, except for grocery store runs.

Depending on how his appointment goes and how the restrictions on travel are handled, we will either stay near Toledo til the campground closes this fall and we head south or maybe head up into north Michigan.

Hopefully next year in Rhinebeck and I may even have a workkamper job there next summer. Talked to the owner about it.

Hey. I would have you moochdocking on us ANY TIME, pandemic or not. You and Charles are wonderful people!
Thanks...moochdocking is hard but doable for one night. We did it with a friend for 3 nights back in 2017 near Ann Arbor but she had an RV 30 amp plug for us to use. And offered the use of her extra bathroom. The ability to plug in made all the difference since we didn’t need to use our generator.

Liz, what is your feeling now? do you expect to continue living in your RV full time or do you have a plan B?

because you wrote your OP in April, which now seems like it was years ago!

We are firming up an exit plan but it will be either 3 years from now or when we win the lottery.

We got to Toledo only to discover his surgeon had retired or moved on. They were not really forthcoming on that issue. We cleared him for this year but he’s shunt was installed in 2006 and mech devices don’t last forever and need periodic attention. We found out this month where he relocated. Of all places, Morgantown WV which has the teaching hospital for WV. And while WV seems backward to most, it’s no more backward than many states in the Southern tier, looks much like Vermont/NH without the high taxes or ridiculous housing prices. And has a good climate.

Since a shunt surgeon is hard to find, we will be settling near Morgantown.

it's good to have a plan & interesting point about WV. I hope you are able to get Charles in to the surgeon as soon as needed.

my assumption is that RV living, like everything else since the pandemic started, is full of uncertainty!

Umm why ?
The cold that is.. I get the surgeon
He says as he throws another log into the wood stove on a cold wet day.....
I lived out in S. CA for 6 months...which was 5 months, 30 days too damned long. Too dry, way too dry. Hurts my sinuses. And I much prefer layers and all things that come with cold weather. I want snow. And yes, I know parts of AZ get snow but nope.

I can add clothes if I get cold but most of the country frowns on stripping down to bare skin when hot. And good sleeping weather for me and hubby is in the 50’s with loads of covers. A six cat night. (Play on the three dog night from the northwest pioneers that Three Dog Night, the band, took their name)

So it’s not for the winter sports like skiing, skating, snowmobiling and ice fishing that cold weather has to offer?!
