Since I moved to AZ at the end of 2016, I’ve been meaning to check him out as a backup plan if I ever ended up needing emergency abdominal surgery, to make sure I didn’t end up with someone who would look at my designer guts and decide they needed to be “fixed” while they’re in there. I wanted to be considered a patient of his in advance in that case
He seems OK. Took a lot of time with me, talked about why he sort of favors what he calls the loop DS (fewer issues with malabsorption), but does about half and half. He said he does the duodenal-ileal anastomosis in a way that decreases the likelihood of bile reflux.
I am in the process of changing PCPs, because my current PCP just moved for the third time in 4 years, but this time is moving about 20 miles away. So I asked him if he knew one near me to suggest who was knowledgeable and cooperative. Imagine my dismay when he immediately suggested - my current PCP. Arnold didn’t know he was moving. Crap.
