Hospital length

Can VSG be done lap or is it inpatient? What is the average hospital stay length?
Okay, Lap versus open...depends on what size incisions and how many. Most surgeries are done lap now.Very few are done open but the option is always there if a surgeon feels it is needed.

Inpatient versus outpatient. Most simple surgeries (example is the gallbladder surgery) are done outpatient...You go in just long enough to get thru the surgery, get thru recovery and then get released to go home and heal. Inpatient means that you are admitted to the hospital room/floor for care after surgery. Usual stay is 1-3 days depending on surgery type, etc.

My DS was done lap and inpatient. I was admitted to stay in the hospital for 3 days after surgery.

My gall bladder surgery was done lap and outpatient.

I would say at least one night. I have never heard of anyone doing it as an outpatient. You will need pain management and they will also need to make sure there are no leaks.
