It is very individual. According to my surgeon it is the day you leave the hospital, jerk.

I didn't need any at home but was in the hospital 3 whole days & nights. I assume New Anatomy knows you?

Lol, seriously @JackieOnLine !
It is so variable - I had surgery on Tuesday, got home Friday afternoon, choked on one Vicodin, and decided I didn't need pain meds after that. I was surprised how little pain there was (as long as I was mostly sitting - getting up and down to go to the bathroom and to walk was oochie, but stopped right away).
LOL I have actually started packing

I took pain meds by the clock for at least a week or ten days after leaving the hospital, then transitioned over to PRN.

I took them at night! I slept much better drugged up!
