I've been looking around trying to decide which way to go for a new PCP. The local Internal Medicine Dr.s are booked for 3 months, but a couple people have recommended a newer Family Dr. That is young and enthusiastic. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Is this an HMO? Will you have to go "through" these guys to get to specialists when you need one? They sound too busy to me.

Try for young and trainable.

We are going to a new PCP while in FL in Jan/Feb (we officially live there by IRS and FL domicile rules, but live in a 5th wheel wherever we are parked. Our current PCP was internal med but we had an easy time getting in (only 6 weeks, not months) as he was also my daddy's. He's been covering for us for labs etc thru a MyChart portal for labs and medicine refills (we are both on thyroid meds, etc). He was okay with helping until we had a chance this winter to get a new one in place.

And yes, new patient appts are usually scheduled pretty far out. Some worse than others.

Honestly I've had good luck with both. Internal Med usually requires a patient be at least 16 before being seen, Family docs cover even babies. Then there is the Geriatric doc who specializes in the elderly. To make it even more confused, there are MD's, DO's, and PA's. Find one you are comfortable with and is comfortable with helping you navigate the DS life.

Thank you for your responses! ! I felt so confused on which way to go. I just don't want to get stuck with one like my current PCP that thinks I'm a hypochondriac since my DS. (She said 2 multi's and an iron was all I needed and wouldn't take my labs until I insisted ) I think I'll try the newer young Dr. That I've heard is very interested in helping patients. We have no geriatric Dr's here.

Sorry for the several-year-long-delay, but this PCP is a COMPLETE MORON and I hope you have replaced her.
