Try for young and trainable.
We are going to a new PCP while in FL in Jan/Feb (we officially live there by IRS and FL domicile rules, but live in a 5th wheel wherever we are parked. Our current PCP was internal med but we had an easy time getting in (only 6 weeks, not months) as he was also my daddy's. He's been covering for us for labs etc thru a MyChart portal for labs and medicine refills (we are both on thyroid meds, etc). He was okay with helping until we had a chance this winter to get a new one in place.
And yes, new patient appts are usually scheduled pretty far out. Some worse than others.
Honestly I've had good luck with both. Internal Med usually requires a patient be at least 16 before being seen, Family docs cover even babies. Then there is the Geriatric doc who specializes in the elderly. To make it even more confused, there are MD's, DO's, and PA's. Find one you are comfortable with and is comfortable with helping you navigate the DS life.
