Hello Bariatric Facts Community!

Are there any people currently seeking out Bariatric Revision in the DFW area? What is your reasoning for wanting a revision? I myself have toggled with weight but I wasn't sure if that was enough to justify a revision.

Thanks!

You are very close to Dr. Ayoola. Make an appointment and ask!

Common reasons for revision. Surgery not working right, inadequate weight loss. Picked the wrong surgery.

Hi and welcome MMM10311 ! :) If you're considering this, please know you haven't failed, your prior surgery failed you.

I am in the process of trying to get our insurance to cover a medically necessary sleeve to RNY revision. Severe reflux, and I have a hiatial hernia too. I'm not sure it will be fixed. Our insurance does not cover WLS, so I just started the process of getting an exception due to the medical issues. We'll see. My doctor is in Dallas, he isn't the one I used for sleeve surgery, but a friend of mine used him and highly recommended him. He is on top of it, he ordered an endoscopy and barium burger right off the bat to see what he was looking at. We've proceeded as though I will be approved, stress test, psyc eval and he did a heart sonogram.

If insurance doesn't cover it, I'm afraid we'll end up paying for it. I can't do this for the rest of my life.

I have a friend who used Dr. Ayoola, she went from sleeve to DS. She loved, loved this doctor.

HI Stratusphr, Have you considered a Duodenal Switch - a sleeve is the first part of this surgery, so wouldn't need to revise the stomach portion, just add on the 2nd, intestinal part. All the best!

I did check into it, but with the severe reflux, I've had two bariatric surgeons recommend a revision to RNY. I'm comfortable with it. Thaank you!! Praying insurance will agree with the recommendations after reviewing the test results. We'll see!

I’m a snarky old woman, but DO allow me to go out on a limb here:

I’d bet REAL money that the two bariatric surgeons who recommended RnY, don’t do the DS. We have a list of DS surgeons here. Check to see if those surgeons are on it, just to know how unbiased the info you are getting might be. They may be good surgeons, but…

when your only tool is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.

Weight Loss Specialists of North Texas - Bariatric Doctor - Dr. Ayoola (weightlosssurgeon.com) is supposed to be one of the best, but he isn't listed.

Stratuspur: Your severe reflux could be due to your hiatal hernia. You should definitely be evaluated by a DS surgery expert to see if you’re a candidate or not for WLS revision to DS versus RNY.
