    Is this forum deserted?

Helloooo-o...? Seems pretty quiet here, but I'll give it a try. I'm a little over one week post-op. I had my surgery on Dec 28, 2017 with Dr. Vivek Prachand at the University of Chicago. I was originally scheduled to have a regular DS, but my operation took extra time and apparently my kidneys...

Best explanation of DS for family

Hi folks - I'm getting switched in two days (there goes the champagne for New Year's Eve) and some family members are asking for a good website that will explain exactly what I'm having done. I tried a couple but they don't seem too clear or sufficiently detailed. Any suggestions? Hope the...

    Medical records and changing surgeons

I am going to change surgeons and, since I've been working on all of the requirements for my insurance for the past six months, I want to be able to take all the medical records I've been amassing to the meeting with my new surgeon. My question is: how do I go about getting a copy of all those...

Is there one size of CC that is known to be best based on data/experience?

Anyone been told they might get half of the DS first?

I sent an email to Prachand - and he got back to me within about 2 hours! (impressed) But he did say, "I have been doing totally laparoscopic DS since 2002 here at University of Chicago (DS makes up about 20% of our bariatric practice), and I have done so in patients with BMI as high as 86 as a...

Anyone been told they might get half of the DS first?

    It's 62. Hence, the DS.

Anyone been told they might get half of the DS first?

Just had my follow up with the surgeon (my surgery is December 26) and he said that it's possible he would have to do an initial sleeve and then wait a year until I lose "a lot of weight" so there would be more room in my abdominal cavity and therefore he'd have more room to maneuver (and...

Happy & Scared - Just got surgery date

I couldn't agree more, Jackie. By the way, is that little guy on your avatar a binturong? So cute!

Happy & Scared - Just got surgery date

That's a great idea. My daughter has to work on Thanksgiving this year, and we were talking about meeting up sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas and having some kind of mix of the two. I really do want at least a taste of pumpkin pie!

Happy & Scared - Just got surgery date

It's official: December 26th. The holidays just won't be the same this year, but hopefully the many holiday seasons to come will be so much better. I've been waiting patiently (okay, sometimes not very patiently) to get this date and now that I have it... it's so real now. Did any of you have...

Are new stretch marks normal pre-op?

No, not red. They're a very pale color and I don't remember have stretch marks so high up before. I'm puzzled.

Are new stretch marks normal pre-op?

I'm in a weight-loss program pre-surgery and have lost about 30 lbs in about 2 1/2 months. Last week I noticed new stretch marks high up on my abdomen and my skin there is sore. Is this normal?

The bariatric section of my Cigna EOC

Yes, they seem to be on the ball about that: not only monthly weight but vitals, behavioral programs, labs, etc. The one thing I'm not sure about is the exercise component, so I'm going to ask them about that next week.
