Researching standard DS vs Loop DS surgery.

I am a 12.5 years post-op patient of Dr. Kemmeter and had my DS at age 45. I am doing fabulously well and have maintained within a seven pound window all this time. I have had some osteoporosis issues and take daily Forteo injections, which appear to be working. My bone marker lab values are...

VBG to DS Revision ?'s (Surgeon Decisions)

I am eight years post op and a native Detroiter and have followed patients of Dr. L. On multiple forums over the years. I would not use him for a virgin DS, let alone a revision. I independently noticed a disturbing amount of his patients having serious (like in the hospital for months at a...

Why did you chose your avatar?

Mine is just of some homely crone's avatar I stole from Facebook. Figured I'd do some catfishin'.

    Is Gelatin Liquid?

I ate avocado very early on.....maybe at three weeks. I wanted something "green," but didn't feel ready for veggies yet.

    My Switched Life so far

Even at 7.5 years out, those pesky whey protein shakes make me very bloated. I had better luck as a newbie post-op with the Atkins shakes, although I recall that they are a blend that isn't quite as well absorbed as the 100% whey shakes.

It really sucks eggs when you've been rolling along on a free-carb ride for some time, and it comes to a screeching halt.

Can we talk $#!+ some more?

Lately, mine have become less frequent and more "pre-DS" is consistency. My normal, for so many years, was "puddin' poo." Not sure why I'm having this change, but I don't like it.

    Smoking after surgery?

I have a DSer friend who is now dead, and I'm pretty sure her smoking contributed to her death. She had several post op complications and surgeries, and smoking impedes healing. Most plastic surgeons do not operate on smokers for that very reason.

    An Impending Wealth of Pears...

Not too bad in August....my PTH has come down, my D has gone up. Still not optimal, but out of the danger zone. Had to up my zinc a bit, and need to get that redrawn. Still need iron infusions, but that's a given. All is well with you? I hope?

So I had the education class today

I'm pretty fortunate that my surgeon has made a good effort to listen to and acknowledge the needs of DS'ers, and that his staff is, for the most part, implementing our suggestions. They're not perfect - but they're a lot more progressive in their thinking than what most of you are describing...

Better out than in - permission to fart, officially granted

Oh God, flying always makes me so freaking, painfully gassy - even when I avoid fartogenic foods for days before my trip. No wonder.

    An Impending Wealth of Pears...

Honestly, I don't care whether you have a mountain of pears rotting in your kitchen op not. I'm just damned happy to see your babushka'd visage on the Interwebs once again.

When did you try these foods?

I tried to stay away from almost all of that type of food until I hit a normal BMI, at approximately eight months post-op. The two exceptions were diet coke (four months) and salad (seriously? from about two months on....I seem to have a cast-iron constitution for foods like nuts and...

2 year RNY to DS revision surgiversary

What a great post, and as Kirmy says, many parallels! I am also 52, had my DS at 45, and my only regret is that I'd not done this in my 20's. It would have been interesting to see how differently my life would have turned out. Oh well, I guess no use crying over spilled milk. You look...
