Nausea post op

This is going to seem silly to ask given your trouble eating, but are you taking the PPIs on an empty stomach? Many people do not take them correctly. No food for 30 minutes after taking.

seriously? I don't think anyone ever told me that! o_O

I took my PPIs incorrectly for years. I have set my iPhone to go off at 7 AM and 6 PM (had to use the bedtime settings - my phone thinks I sleep 13 hours/night!) to remind me to take them.

LorettaLynn I almost can't believe I *liked* your above post that you have tested positive for H. Pylori, but as Jackie wisely pointed out, knowing the cause of the problem is the first step toward resolution. I hope that you feel better soon!

DonRobbie, given you have had similar digestive issues and were at the same place at about the same time and H. Pylori spreads fairly easily, maybe it would be a good idea for you to get tested too (if you haven't already)?

All the best!

I suspect I’ve had the H Pylori for years and that the surgery stirred it up. I had an endoscopy in Aug of last year and the dr failed to test me for H Pylori for some reason even though I had polyps and gastritis at the time, which of course annoys me now. I lived overseas for years in the third world, so I suspected that is where this began.

Throwing up 3-5 times a day the last 2 weeks have left me spent and weak but I am hoping we’ve turned a corner on the vomiting finally.

I did my H Pylori re-test today and am waiting on the results. I threw up Thurs, Fri, and Mon, and again have the gas, bloating, weird sense of taste, and gross coating on my tongue that I had before my H Pylori treatment.

I did in fact retest positive for H Pylori on Thurs and started a quadruple therapy regimen last night. In Feb I did the triple therapy. My PCP says it’s not that my bariatric surgery stirred up the H Pylori so much as that the stress of major surgery was the thing that set it off.

So just to keep everyone posted, and for researching DSers down the road, the second round of antibiotics for H Pylori didn’t do much and now my PCP is referring me to a gastroenterologist on Monday. The only real difference I could feel with this round of treatment was diarrhea every time I went to the bathroom, bloating, and a lot of noise from my abdomen. No improvement. I continue to throw up a few times a week after having an upset stomach all day. The vomitus is usually all clear gelatinous gel, if that makes any sense.

On the way positive side, my DS seems to be working great and this week I finally wore size 14 jeans and got under 200 lbs.

I was so excited about your good news I forgot to even ask how you were feeling. Sorry it still isn't going well. I hope the gastroenterologist's visit yield solid information and a path to recovery.
