Chevtow progress report

Since someone ( @robs477 ) asked and I havent updated in a bit here goes.

How have you been @robs477

Thxs for the update @chevtow SO happy for ya, sorry for the legs fractures though. I'm about in the same place you are. As of this morning, I am at 189 lbs, a total of 166 lbs lost. Factoring in for the extra bone density and extra skin, my RAW, (Real adjusted Weight), is realistically 180. I want my WL to stop, but its not. I even increased my calories by 1400 more per day, and it aint doing crap. I see my Dr. this week and guess I'm going to be asking him for one of the digestive enzyme prescriptions. I feel great, labs OK except for low iron and mild anemia....just wish the WL would stop. Mentally, Its taking a lot of the joy of losing the weight away because I'm concerned I will need the kissing X revision and with my job, CANT take off for another GD surgery. Anyway, I will post a full update after I see the Dr. this week, thxs for asking!

I'm 15 months out and have been hovering between 195-200#'s. Which is a loss of 269-274#'s!!

Had microfracture surgery on my knee 3 days after Xmas and have been on crutches since. I've eaten a bit worse and gotten much less exercise (crutches and snow/ice don't mix) but will soon be easing off the sticks and can start at gym and get out more which always helps my diet. Not really sure I want to lose much more but we'll see what my body wants.
You are doing awesome in the weight department. Sorry about the knee.

It's actually microfracture - they drill small holes in the bone to get it to bleed, the resulting scar tissue acts like poor man's cartilage. They are hoping to get me to 50 before they replace the knee (I'm 43). Bad thing is everything I've read says it only lasts at best 5 years, but I had to do something. Thanks for the well wishes

Rob if you are feeling well I wouldn't be too excited yet. I never felt good after, surgery, never. Hang in there and relax your mind. I think you are going to bottom our and head back up without needing any help.... Just my gut feel. I would suggest that you steer clear of Creon unless you really see the labs heading the wrong way and or you start feeling weak, fatigued, lightheaded or any of those. Creon can be rough on your system as it made my guts burn so don't do it until you know for sure you need it. Just my advice.. Hang in there

Sorry to hear that bud but hopefully it will buy you time.

Thxs Scott..You know how much I value your opinion and your expertise. I do feel good, great actually. I just also know how hard it is to come back if you let yourself get out of whack so to speak. At what point, at what weight would you start getting concerned if you were me??? I lost ANOTHER GD pound just since yesterday when I wrote this...lol. The problem is, I only see the Dr. every 3 months. At my current rate of WL, I will be in the 160's by the next time I see him, so, my plan was to get the prescription for a good probiotic and the Creon, BUT..NOT start on the Creon just yet, BUT at least have it there if I went below 180 or so???

@chevtow I'm glad you're doing so well overall. Sorry about the knee! My knees were one of the big reasons I had the DS. I knew if I didn't lose weight I would end up with crippling arthritis, and given that it could be prevented, that wasn't acceptable to me. I hope the temporizing measures last a long long time for you.

Where would 180 put your BMI? The funny thing is that even though I was severely malnourished my weight never dropped below 170 which put me at a BMI of 21.8. I seemed to settle there even though my lab values were still dropping.

Personally I would suggest telling your Dr your concerns and see if you can get him to do monthly labs and see what they do compared to your weight. If your albumin and total protein are holding fine, the weight to me will fall where it falls. If you see the total protein and albumin diving then I would ask for Creon.

Just my thoughts

Robs - I would consider starting on a small dose of Creon pretty soon, if you are still losing that quickly and easily.

Thats pretty much what I think also. Though my albumin levels have been holding pretty solid at 4.10 or so, they just recently dropped in my EHE exam in Dec to 3.6 (3.50-5.5), the total protein has been declining every 3 months = 7.40- 7.20- 6.50- 5.40, (6.0-8.50) respectively, and more importantly, to me, as an analytical Engineer type, I see NO change or flattening in the WL curve. I actually have it plotted in excel and it as straight as an arrow. That to me says more than anything.

Do either one of you (or anyone else), think that a presc probiotic might help? I have read that it may increase absorption in SOME people??? and want to try that first, IF the good Dr. agrees of course. BUT, when I go in there this wed, I want a script for both so I can start the Creon (if needed), at my own discretion. Does that make any sense as a plan??? A-B-C etc? Also, just as a footnote...regarding time, I am only THREE days away from being at the one year point, so I was hopeful of seeing some decline in the WL by this point. Again, real hard to wrap my pea brain around, NEVER thought Id be saying any of this...:r.o.t.f:

@chevtow hope to NOT hi-jack your thread my friend,...I don't think you mind because you asked for my update...and....this info may also be helpful to you as well....but, do want to be respectful of your thread of course.

So your total protein and was 5.4 and albumin 3.6 on last read, just about and pretty decent amount below range respectively? If that is the case and seeing the trend is heading down, I am in agreement about asking to go on CREON.... at least a low dose. Wouldn't hit it too hard, but once you go on it I do think you need monthly labs to be able to adjust.

Regarding the prescription prebiotic, not that I have heard of but I haven't researched it either. Just doing a quick google of pre vs probiotics I see this:

Answer: Probiotics are “good” bacteria that help keep your digestive system healthy by controlling growth of harmful bacteria. Prebiotics are carbohydrates that cannot be digested by the human body. They are food for probiotics.
