I am not a patient, and I USED to be a fan of his. But I'm parking something I saw here for people who are thinking of using him, as well as recent serious concerns.

Long term concerns with Roslin:
  • Does NOT do an RNY to DS conversion in many cases - he has "criteria" (which, for example, Keshishian and Rabkin do not) for certain kinds of RNY pouches, and he won't sleeve them, and instead insists on conversion to ERNY (you need to know why that is a BAD thing)
  • Is pushing the experimental procedure SADI and saying it is a loop DS - IT IS NOT A DS.
Anyway, this was posted on a FB page recently, reporting what happened at a Roslin seminar - I am appalled:

Well the seminar was supposed to a 1hr and a half he cut it 30 mins short. Rushed people with there questions he was like lets make this quick last question!!!!!! Before u could finish asking the questions he cut you off. He said don't read that BS from online ppl bcuz that's just one person experince, he said he hates online people writing a bunch of crap. He kept mentioning the SADI. He told me revisions are very complicated from RNY to DS. I asked him what he recommend for revision patients he told me to figure it out.

Ain't that a kick in the pants? I'd like to know if anybody thinks this behavior is OK.

I went for a 10 min consult with him and Wenger her found out I was $ self pay, he refused to do my revision from RNY TO DS.

Absurd.someone had to answer questions for the new ones because he obviously won't. But what I hear.none of the doctors want their patients listening to online advice from the vets..o

Yeah, well I'm a nurse and know a thing or two about appropriate behaviors. Answering a "personal" phone call and continuing to speak to that individual in the room during my time with the surgeon is totally inappropriate. Also, he was well aware I was self pay months before my appt, yet had me drive an hour an half into Manhattan is unacceptable. I would never have this man touch my body. He wasn't showing me professionalism or concern while I was awake, what would have happened if I went under the knife? Then he had nerve to say, "what are you going to do if you have a complication, go to Bridgeport hospital?" Those from CT, know this is a blatant dig. How disrespectful. When I asked well what do I do now, he said try pharmaceuticals to lose weight. OMG! Unacceptable. Just starting the facts, not doctor bashing. But everything happens for a reason.

I actually had planned to see Dr. Roslin for an RNY to DS revision. My appointment was for August 7th. His staff told me he does do revisions all the time, so I booked a hotel (coming in from Boston), plane tickets, everything. Then, after reading more on this forum, decided I would like to speak with him beforehand. They gave me his e-mail, and I explained my situation and attached my operative report. He told me that because I was "undivided" (my pouch was not transected from the stomach, as was common in early RNY procedures), he would not touch me. He said even if I was "divided" he would only revise me to an ERNY. Everything happens for a reason and now with the controversy with the SADI being experimental and people not being advised that is what they are getting instead of a true DS, I see it as a blessing in disguise. I will enjoy a weekend away in NY City regardless, and I am consulting with a another physician from our "vetted" list and see how it goes from there. Needless to say, while I was appreciative Dr. Roslin called me from his car at 8:00 at night to tell me he could not help me, his staff should just advise people he no longer does these kinds of revisions.

@Kelleigh710 I'm glad you got the info you needed without going through with the consultation. Which surgeon will you be working with now?
@Larra I have a phone consult with Dr. Ayoola on Tuesday night. He has already been very responsive to me via Facebook and his staff have been wonderful. I'm hoping our phone consult goes well and we can move forward from there. If not, back to the "vetted surgeons" list I go! :)

Wow, reading “in between the lines” here so to speak, you have a very impressive and positive demeanor about you young Lady! My hats off to you for looking at all the positive aspects of something that would have really upset most people, (including me), and moving forward! Good luck and you have my very best wishes for your success!!
