I have osteoperosis now

An update was requested.
I did a round of Reclast, two years later, another round after my DEXA scan. It had slowed down considerably but not reversed. I have another year before I can do another DEXA (Medicare rules).

Reclast, compared to most, was fairly easy. A mild headache the first time, no reaction the second. I know I was extremely lucky on that.

Update: had a DEXA scan about 2 weeks ago.

Saw a specialist today. Apparently after I went into full blown osteoporosis, the Reclast is yearly for three years, take a break, then another three years. Osteopenia is every other year.

So I get more Reclast for the time being. That’s okay as I tolerate it well. But she’s also on board for Prolia as I go along. She was looking at my scores and the arm one jumped out at her. She asked if I could have hyperparathyoidism. Told her with a PTH of 14.4, it wasn’t likely. She agreed.

Hope you are seeing improvement or at least holding steady!

More holding steady than improving.

Well, that's something! I don't have osteoporosis or osteopenia or pain, but my back truly is a hot mess when you look at it on an MRI (not related to DS), so trying to do my best to hold the line with calcium and vitamin D.

I saw my osteoporosis specialist a few weeks back. And got my next to last Reclast scheduled. Then I came across the Prolia article I posted in the Newsworthy forum on it helping diabetics. After showing both my endocrinologist and PCP, both of whose only comment was “once on Prolia, you are on it for life”. They agreed. So I messaged my doctor and switched from the Reclast to the Prolia.
