Any suggestions on a brand and where you are getting it from??? I had been using Bio-Tech 25000 from amazon but they have not had any for quite a while. So I switched to Solaray 25,000 and now you can't find any of that. What's going on anyone know?

Whatever you find (there is a global shortage of the palmitate dry form), make sure you adjust for the palmitate. Many are still out there as beta carotene and oil based. Some dry has both carotene and palmitate which is why you need to adjust.
Some were able to find it at WalMart online. Vitalady.com may have some. I just checked the BioTech web site and they say out if stock but you can opt in for am email when it’s back.

Yesterday, I received my Solaray Vit A 25,000 from Amazon. Have you tried that source?
Solaray Dry Vitamin A provides a rich source of a vitamin that plays a critical role in normal vision, skin health, your immune system function, and reproduction. This formula supplies 25,000 IU of vitamin A as 15,000 IU beta carotene and 10,000 IU of retinyl palmitate.

No comprendo.

’splain, please.

This is insufficient palmitate? How does one adjust for palmitate?

(What the hell is palmitate?)

Okay, we don’t absorb beta carotene well at all. It has to be converted by the body to palmitate. So skipping straight to palmitate saves us pooping most of it out.

To adjust for palmitate, just up the number of tablets/capsules to equal the total of palmitate in one dose of Biotech.

I emailed and asked Biotech when they expected it in stock and what was going on. Like was the shortage due to lack of ingredients to formulate it or too much demand. I wanted to know the answer so I could decide if I needed to have a few backups in the future.

They said that they had equipment breakdowns this summer and they are working their way out of the backlog.

There are dry vitamin A at lower doses than the 25k in like 10k. It isn't a fortune like it is if you happen to find the 25k.

Thanks Liz. Vitalady is sold out also. I will check walmart.

So it sounds like you would have to take 2.5 X more of the Solaray to make up for the lack of palmitate? That's going to get pricey!

New recommendation for all: keep at least a one year supply on hand at all times of the D and especially A & K because there are only 1 or 2 companies for those. I think a lot of the raw materials for this stuff come from China so that's another supply risk.

Thanks for this.

According to your article, "Randomised trials, set up to study prevention of lung cancer, showed that β-carotene actually increased the risk of disease."

But we're supposed to take Vit A as retinyl palmitate (like in Biotech A-25) so wouldn't we be safe?

Last year, I experienced a Vitamin A deficiency and lost all of my night vision and was headed on a path way to close to full blindness - I also had dizziness and acne. So, there's that, on the opposite end of things. Best to keep an eye on labs and try for the normal ranges!
