Hi
My surgery is fastly approaching (12/28) and quite nervous and excited but I know this is normal.
Question: is there any advantage start to taking a probiotic prior to surgery?

I bought them pre-op but did not start taking them. It can take several weeks for the intestinal tract to get acclimated to the probiotic. I figured there were a lot of other, more important things my intestines had to adjust to with the surgery. (And you can't take pills for several weeks post-op anyway so you'd be starting from scratch.) I'm 5 weeks out and have not started them yet.

So, if it were me, I wouldn't start taking something so soon to surgery. But that's just my opinion. Others may have different views.

Nervous and excited is how most of us felt. Hang in there. Soon all will be well.

and you aren't going to be able to keep up on them after surgery anyway so it will probably be a good month or longer before you would be able to start on them again anyways, so as the lady said, I wouldn't bother with it.
