I'm not saying this will work for everyone, but just something else to consider. A short history:

In August 2014, I began to notice my scalp peeking through in the front when I wore my hair in a loose ponytail. My shower drain was full of hair, so was the bathroom floor, my clothes had strands of hair everywhere. I immediately stopped using a brush and spoke to my DS dietician, bariatric surgeon, endocrinologist, hematologist, PCP and others. For the next year and a half we tried iron, biotin, more protein...nothing worked. I gave up for a while and just lived with it. No one else could really see it if I wore my ponytail with a part, but I still saw hair loss everywhere.

I decided to try again in October 2016. I asked my osteo. specialist if she was the one to speak with about this. She said she wasn't but referred me to a cosmetic dermatologist. I brought my latest DS bloods (about 2 weeks old) to him. He looked at my scalp and said I was definitely losing hair. He tested my scalp and said there was nothing wrong. He then looked at my bloods and told me my Vit. A was high. I said it was in the normal range. He said yes, but high normal. It's not necessary to be that high and high Vit. A can cause hair loss. I'd never heard that before. He wanted me to try Rogaine & lower the Vit. A. I decided to try the Vit. A alone b/c if my hair loss stopped I'd never know which had done it.

By December 2016, I noticed a significant decrease in the amount of hair I was losing. The bathtub drain, floor, my clothing, etc.

By February 2017, I noticed new hairs sprouting along my temple. It was unbelievable.

So that's where I am today. A lot happier. I'm still lowering the Vit. A (as my numbers are still too high) and will test it again in July 2017 to see where it is.

I'm not saying this is a cure for everyone (esp. newbies when a lot of other things are going on). But just wanted to give everyone a 'heads' up that this might be something to consider.

Awesome.

My last labs had my vitamin A in low normal and trending down so I finally added A. I take two of the BioTech A 25,000 a week. One on Sun and one on Wed. I don't necessarily want to raise my A but I do want to stop the downward trend.

Wow, that is really interesting. It definitely sounds like your hair loss was related to the Vitamin A being on the higher side. Thank you for sharing this.

Thanks for sharing this! I am sure it will help someone down the road. I do have a question. Do you think your hair will ever go back to the way it was before the loss? Get as thick as it was before?

Wow!! Kudos to u for being dogged until you got an answer! And for being smart enough to start with the Vit A before trying Rogaine. Plus one downside to Rogaine is once u stop using it , ur thinning can start again.

@Munchkin Seems to be coming back in like before. The left side is pretty much covered when I wear a ponytail. I can still see some scalp on the right, however. I figure it may take a year or so till it really looks like it did before.
