Hi there

Like many here I have struggled with my weight my entire adult life, currently have a bmi of 58. I am researching the DS surgery, being Canadian my only true option would be self pay in Mexico. I look forward to learning from you all, so I can be as prepared as possible.

Welcome! You've come to the right place to get the best information! You'll find lots of info about Mexico. I had DS done there by Dr. Esquerra in June 2016 and am extremely happy! Read the threads here and ask questions you think of. Again, welcome.

"To our knowledge only one surgeon in Ontario is performing Duodenal Switch (DS) surgery. If the surgeon you have been assigned to does not, at your assessment you can ask for a referral to Dr. Dennis Hong at St. Joseph's Health Centre in Hamilton to be evaluated for the DS."

There is also Gagner, but he is messing around with experimental surgeries:

I am in BC, Ontario only takes OHIP as far as I know without self pay. Self pay is around 17-20k so Mexico must easier. Even so the wait is years and I need to fix my health now.

Hi and welcome again! It sounds more and more as if Mexico is your best bet, certainly your soonest bet. Keep on reading and asking questions until you are confident about your decision, then go for it.
