Happy Hanukkah

Tonight’s trip down Hannukah Lane is my “discovery” of the 1939 film Tevya…a precursor to Fiddler on the Roof. It’s in Yiddish*, and I’m too ADHD to sit still and read subtitles, so I only watched a little. It isn’t a fun musical. Even darker…it was filmed in 1939 and that’s when Nazis invaded The Free City of Danzig (now part of Poland). Many of the cast and crew had family in Poland, but the finished the filming anyway.

*Many neighbors/HS friends in my neighborhood were Jews. There was a lot of Yiddish thrown around. A decade+ after high school, I found myself in Germany and…I’ll be hornswaggled…I understood A LOT of conversations in German!
