gastric balloon deaths safety alert

I saw the article in Medscape which I get the daily headlines. I just knew that adding a foreign object to the body like that can be an issue.

I'm not against all foreign objects...hell, I have screws and bolts in my back and now I have cataract lenses in my eyes but that one just did not fit the criteria of a good option, no more than a belt around your throat (aka the lap band).

@southernlady that has always been my feeling about this also. I'm all for joint replacements, and pacemakers, and insulin pumps, etc., but the sad history with lap band should have made it clear that the GI tract is not the place for gadgets.

I wonder how many people out there still have a band? I work (ed) with one of them & I fear for her.

I remember back in the day when someone went to Tijuana for a band and woke up with a balloon. Surgeon didn't even grasp why she was upset.
