Hello!

Hoping to get some insight and opinions from the vets on these boards as I am getting all sorts of conflicting information in other places.

What say you regarding taking extended release medications?

Do you find that tablets are absorbed better than capsules?

Is there anything else that i need to take into consideration when talking with my doctors regarding medications?

I appreciate your insight! Thank you!
Becky

At least in the beginning extended release can be a problem for some and if there is a choice it's probably better to avoid it. Later on it may not be an issue. For me, tablets and capsules are the same.

Yup...it's a YMMV.

I avoid them...why take chances?

AND, I make sure that they don't automatically write (for a uti, for example) a script for Macrobid (bid = twice a day) instead of Macrodantin (1 capsule 4x day.) They lean toward Macrobid because only needing to take the drug twice a day enhances compliance.

My gut is weird. I want to confuse it as little as possible.

The only way I can get stable blood levels of my seizure drug is to take it in extended release form. This was not true prior to DS. Go figure.
