I know...and I knew that when I made my first post...which being still quite new to these boards, I should have just kept my mouth shut.
I don't want to be not welcome here...I know no one personally who's had the DS so I could use the support offered here.
Oh well, I'm almost 44 yrs old and still haven't learned when to NOT open my mouth!

@star0210, I agree with everything you said and then some. I also agree with some things the others said too. Such as, It is hard to make judgment regarding someone’s ability to pay or have insurance. That being said, IMHO, the access to ALL aspects of all medical care for any non-emergency procedures for everyone IS NOT A RIGHT! as @DianaCox said. I think it should be for kids, the people and elderly who have put in to the system and the disabled, no doubt, but for people on welfare their whole entire life, I say F*%* em, even if they have low IQ’s, there is still work they could be doing! If you was employed and not a scammer, then yes, regardless of income, it should be accessible. We will have to agree to dis-agree, so, enough said. That is why I said at the beginning of this thread I didn’t want to post my opinion because it would lead to discussions about politics and socialism etc.

Regarding you stating your views: I think I know these ladies pretty well, at least cyberly. With a high intelligence level also comes very strong opinions. Though some may feel differently than you or me or others about this subject, there is no way they would de-value you or your worth on this site based on a difference of opinion. We are all in this together, not just WLS, but living in the US etc and are all part of the "Human condition", no matter what. Please don’t feel like you can’t give your honest opinion, that’s not the vibe I get here.

We just gave our right-wingnut, homophobic, gay, ex-Navy SEAL handyman a very generous Christmas gift because he celebrates Christmas and he has been very good to us and gave us info that saved us a bunch of money and we wanted to thank him.

And he sits in my house spouting Hannity And I respond with Rachel or Lawrence or Jon Stewart. And we trust each other and will die convinced the other one is wrong.

But we can be friends because we have brains.

Spiky, because we adore each other so, (and I mean that in a non smat-ass way)...lol, and since we can’t put toothpaste back in the tube, (nor would we want too), thought I would “expound” or clarify my “political views” just briefly. I am NOT a “right winger” or a “left winger”. I am a little of both and consider myself a Thomas Jefferson era (minus the slaves), “Constitutionalist”. I believe the smaller the government the better. I HATE both political parties equally and believe that they both work for their corporate puppet masters at the expense of the American people and have run this Country in to the ground beyond any possible recovery both equally.

I watch NO TV news and haven’t for almost 20 yrs, NO Fox news or Limbaugh, Hannity etc or the equally bias and corrupt MSNBC, CNN etc. I believe that politicians are like underwear and need to be changed on a regular basis and they ALL smell bad. Just to clarify.

I have re-read what you wrote and politics aside, I don't know where I came up with your blaming the victim. I am sorry for jumping to the wrong conclusion. I think maybe the paragraph above fed into my perception a bit. I don't think that just because someone can't spell, conjugate or form a complete sentence they should be excluded from WLS either. All of the surgeries require common sense and a willingness to advocate for yourself not necessarily a formal education.

And I will believe decent universal health care is a RIGHT, until my dying day. It is not socialism, it is part of the right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Because health is required for ALL of those things. It is the same as the right to roads, fire protection, police protection (such as it is), clean water, clean air, and a roof over one's head, and a decent retirement without having to eat cat food. It is part of our responsibility as a society to establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity. If you don't have your health, you have none of those things.

Star, just because some don't agree with your viewpoint, you will not be sent away This is a great place for support (even though you are wrong, LoL).

I believe health care is a right for all. I hate that people take advantage of the system, I took advantage to save my life and make myself a productive member of society but I'm back to paying back to society so it's not so bad. There will always be people with their hands out for more when their pockets are full. There are those on food stamps that don't deserve, there are those that should be on food stamps that can't get them because they make ten dollars too much a month. It's a flawed system but I'd rather some get that don't deserve than those that need not be able to have. I know one person on disability that if they make ten dollars a month, it will cost them almost 300 in lost benefits between health and food stamps, they are trapped because they are too ill to make up the 300. It's not fair that someone that works at say McDonalds cannot afford to get the surgery but if they don't work at all they can get surgery but it's the reality of today, it's the reality of our system. I sometimes flirt with becoming a contractor, I'd make more money and not have to deal with a lot of junk. Problem is that my health insurance would be almost 800.00 per month. I can't afford that, I'm trapped but I'm still happy to be working and productive. No person, unless they have issues that preclude them (intellectual disability or mental illness) should ever be turned away for bariatric surgery, IMO. Unless a person just keels over of a heart attack, it will cost our society much more than the surgery to support the effects of MO.
