It's been a little while since I updated. So I'm working on my third month of my insurance's required doctor visits. I've lost 17 pounds since I started the low-carb diet. So I'm slowly loosing, but I'm also not stressing about being perfect. I had Japanese Hibachi (with fried rice!) for my...

@CaitlynR, Duodenal Switch Patients is the primary one. Be forewarned they aren't the kindest group of people out there. They don't like people asking questions and seem to enjoy being rude, but there is a ton of information if you search the group. @harrietvane, I like this forum better as...

Other than weight loss, what is one of your goals?

I've been fat my whole life. Fat kid. Fat teen. Fat adult. I've been looked down on. I've been barked at. I've been forced to stand because there were no chairs available that I could fit into. I just want to know what it feels like to be a normal member of society. Recently, I went to my older...

I wanted to chime in and say that I think that you are awfully brave to go forward with bariatric surgery. Many of the things that you wrote are also true of me. My brother also had RnY, he didn't pass away but came close. He spent 6 months in the hospital and had many close calls. It wasn't...

Other than weight loss, what is one of your goals?

I want to walk into any store and know that it has clothes that will fit me. I've spent my life shopping for clothes that fit over clothes that look good. I. Can't. Wait. Another big one is that I look forward to seeing a doctor and not having my complaint ignored. "You have headaches because...

@southernlady, giving up Crystal Light is going to be hard. I bought some Mio liquid water enhancer at Wal-Mart today. It uses Stevia as it's sweetener. I'll try the True products. I just wanted something easy to keep in my purse to squirt into my water bottles. The flavor is... It'll take some...

Hey @Katie T.! I'm with you on the stalking. I'm on this website every day trying to figure things out.

So I've decided to do my best, but ignore what she told me about artificial sugar and low-fat. I'll eat low-carb. I'll give up diet soda. I'll take the diet pills. I'll do whatever it takes, except, I will not go low fat and I will not give up artificial sugars right now. I'll eat sugar-free...

No. I wasn't given a time frame at all. I wasn't told how much weight I need to loose. Just loose weight! Do it as quickly as possible! My insurance requires 3 months of visits (4 visits). So I imagine that I have 5 months or more until my surgery date.

So I went to my first appointment. The nutritionist spewed the low-fat crap that so many seem to do. I actually didn't see Dr. Sudan. He was out of town but they didn't want to delay my first appointment. I was put on a severe diet. Low carb (20 TOTAL carbs per day), low fat, no artificial...

Thank you guys for the recommendation against the preassembled pill packs. My major reason for wanting to choose it is because I'm so overwhelmed by all the vitamins and how to take them. I wanted to make it easier on myself. I'm determined to keep myself healthy so I'll look into buying her...

@Larra thank you so much for the info about Duke! I'm going to the informational session with my husband in a couple weeks. I know that I don't want a common channel longer than 100 (and preferably a little shorter than that!) so I will be direct with them about that at my first appointment...

Thank you all for the warm welcomes and advice! I'm learning so much about the DS surgery from going through the forums. There is so much more to this surgery than I imagined. I love how straight forward people are here. As for surgeons, I've been researching them too. I'm very seriously...

Hey guys! I just found this website today. I'm very pre-op (as in, I haven't spoken to a surgeon yet) and I'm trying to learn everything that I can about my chosen surgery - Duodenal Switch!
