Sunday Weigh In (9/9/2018)

Last week 313.4
This week 313.8
I have come to realize that some of my overeating is emotionally based. Work has been chaos lately and I realized I've been binging to 'self-medicate'

At least you are aware and can take steps to stop. Using food to self medicate gets many of us in trouble. Try talking to yourself before putting the food in your month. Ask yourself why you are wanting it. Also, try to make snacks that aren’t easily available unless they are protein type. Example, you want something sweet but anything sweet would either have to be made or go out to get it. Don’t make that kind of snacking easy.

I’ve been fluctuating up and down about 10lbs from day to day but always seem to settle between 142 and 148. Traveling so much I never know if I’m coming or going anymore. Still figuring out some of the best travel foods to get protein and leave the carbs behind. Beef and chicken have been a no-go on the stomach here lately. Pork is Ok sometimes. Fish is usually a safe bet so I’ve been eating more fish lately. My blood sugar has been quite a nightmare over the past 3 weeks. Waking me up throughout the night, down in the low 40s. The CGM has been going crazy and the endocrinologist is at a total loss- not sure if anyone else has dealt with this and if so, what worked to keep glucose levels happy.

Still in Indonesia, and getting a good workout with two hour-long dives a day. Am looking forward to a break from rice with every meal, but the carbs are being burned off fast with diving, swimming and hiking up to my bungalow at the top of the hill several times a day. Lots of fresh whole fish, some chicken and eggs most days, though, so ensuring I get my protein in.

Excitement this week was finishing my next level diving certification and doing two night dives. Oh, and seeing a shark up close(ish)!

Are you eating about every two hours during the day? Eating something like peanut butter on a spoon before bedtime? You can add a couple of crackers if needed. Plan to get up at some point in the middle of the night to grab another spoonful of peanut butter.

Peanut butter has advantages that many other quick protein foods don’t. It has a fair amount of fat built in. The sugar in peanut butter will help raise your blood sugars. Then the protein and fat keep your blood sugar from bottoming out so fast.

I have reactive hypoglycemia, diagnosed in 1994 with a GTT. I found after my DS, I had to have a minimum of 10 carbs with any meal/snack or about 2 hours later I was in the 50’s.

You need to find your best way to handle this. Low blood sugar is dangerous. Especially very low. That’s where the phrase “dead in bed” came from. Some die during a super low blood sugar dip during the night.

Your weight is doing good.

Sounds like you are totally enjoying yourself.

So last week I was up 4 pounds. I’ve been on a sugar binge.
Back to basics (my basics):
-8 hour eating window
-no sugar
-lots of water
-increased protein
-decreased carbs

Hopefully I can lose a pound a week. I’d like to get back to 125.

Have a great week all

Get the sugar devil out of your house!

We are currently in Elkhart IN. We’ve had plenty of rain but nothing like PA has had. And not facing any hurricanes. We are leaving here for Sioux Falls, SD to do a change of domicile. About 2 months ago, the County Election Commissioner in our FL county of Domicile went to the State Election Commissioner to see if those of us who claim domicile in his county were legal residents the purpose of voting.

What aggravated us was the mail service didn’t bother to let anyone know until someone noticed an article in the paper. There are about 3000 of us it will affect. The county is part of Jacksonville metro so 3000 is not going to affect one side or the other. They want our tag money and our vehicle property taxes, but not a say in the county. So we are voting with our feet by heading to SD instead. SD tried that battle about 10 years ago and lost.

After that, we will wander our way back to the NC mountains near where our house was. Want to spend Barkoween and Thanksgiving there at the RV Park.

I have come to realize that some of my overeating is emotionally based.
oh, boy, this is my main problem. I feel your pain! I wish I knew what the answer is - I try working on my entire life, not only my eating. but I find that avoiding sugar/simple carbs in general is important.

So we are voting with our feet by heading to SD instead.

does this mean anything in a practical sense? or just paperwork, mail, etc? not sure if I am asking clearly - do you actually have to live in SD or anything?

Technically "living" there. We have to stay at least one night at a campground, etc using that address on our receipt. Most campgrounds there are more than willing to run the receipt, then change the address to theirs and run "A" receipt again showing their address.

We will probably need to visit SD yearly...stay long enough to see our PCP (at least for me til next June when I get to go on a Med Sup instead of a Med Advantage plan).

What it really means is an OCCASIONAL visit to renew DL after a certain age when they start requiring that in person and not by mail.
