Social drinking

Hello,

I just passed my 5 year surgiversary, and up until recently have had very little desire to drink alcohol. I was also on some meds that were contraindicated with it so it wasn’t an issue.
I am now off those meds and more social, and therefore have had the opportunity to imbibe, sometimes with disastrous results. A little history- I’m no stranger to drinking, with a bit of a “wild child” past, but neither do I have an addiction/dependency problem with alcohol.
So, my question is, for those that partake, what the hell do you drink???? I’d just like to be sociable. I don’t like wine, beer is too filling, and the fruity drinks I tend to like leave me in the bathroom in agony for hours- this was after just 2 of them last night. Creamy drinks are also out of the question. Is this just a side effect if the DS? No more booze? What’s a gal gotta do for a buzz around here???

Gin and tonic - heavy on the tonic, and diet tonic if possible. Tastes good, and I usually find it settles rather than upsets my stomach.

And White Russians if you just want to sip a bit - the cream cuts the burning sensation of the vodka and Kahlua.

I don't have a DS, but I like a vodka tonic or white wine. one is frequently enough and two can be too much, depending on what I'm eating.

maybe it's just because I live in a desert climate but I find it helps if I have an entire 8 oz of water before every alcoholic drink.

Gin and tonic is my drink of choice. (I have 22 kinds of gin in my house...I like gin even though I don't drink more than 1-2 glasses a week!)

I also drink wine and cider, but can't stand beer.

No ill effects for me so far, other than your tolerance will have changed a lot. I get drunk fast, and somewhere around 2-3 drinks in an evening (over 6ish hours) will have me on the floor. So I tend to stick to one drink unless I'm at home (in which case I just nod off) or with trusted friends who know they're on babysitting duty.

Thank you for asking this! I've been curious about it but didn't want to ask.

I was a cheap date before surgery so I'm assuming I'll barely tolerate alcohol now. But the venue we chose for our wedding in July is giving us free champagne and I really don't want to say no to that.

So, I was always a light weight. I'm still a light weight and maybe a little more so. I can drink anything I want. But, it took a year before I tried anything. I can do bubbles without a problem, but I always have nurse drinks.

I'm a rummy. Rum and Coke, maybe. But that's maybe three times a year.

But caution! You are likely to become a real oddity...drunk before you get through the first drink and sobering up by the bottom of that glass. I'm now both a cheap drunk AND a designated driver. My metabolism just slams that stuff through me.

Just a reminder - no alcohol for at least a year - you'll be needing that liver the rest of your life, and the first year of processing stored fat and the toxins that were stored with it are hell on your liver.

Well that settles it then! I'll only be 4 months out at the wedding. Thanks for the knowledge.

You could have a few sips for that very special occasion (assuming the free champagne isn't rotgut and not worth it) - it won't hurt you. But (1) be careful - you will get shitfaced very quickly, and you don't want to embarrass yourself at your own wedding; and (2) that is not a free pass for other occasions.

Exactly! I was less than a year out when I had a trip to Spain. I tried several kinds of alcohol but 1 tiny sip of each and that's it!
