I am sorry I am not here often as I spend a lot of time on the FB group and Dr K's group on FB.

On Sunday evening Cameron's girlfriend rushed him to the ER as he had a lot of pain and as Cassie said, he got very pale very fast. He passed out in triage so they got him in quickly. They gave him contrast for CT and he heaved several times but got about half down. Did the Cat and it showed a large anoint of air in the abdominal cavity so around midnight he had emergency exploratory surgery. It was about 3 hours. He ended having a hole in his stomach. We are not certain why it happened and I need to talk to the surgeon more. He is NPO and had a zipper from his belly button to his sternum which now means he has sternum to groin zipper. The plan right now is to release him on Friday.

He was doing so well attending UIS full-time with a full-time internship at Caterpillar. This is finals week so hopefully his professors aren't dicks and give some slack and time to make things up.

Please keep him in your thoughts. I think this is surgery 21 at 23 years old.

BTW, this is what you get when you have emergency exploratory surgery when you have a lot of free air show up on a CT. Hopefully it heals as well as the one below. I am fearful that he is going to end up with a full abdominal mesh at some point as I imagine he is going to be a hernia and adhesion/scar tissue machine. :(

Thanks Liz. He is trying my friend. I am glad I was feeling well enough to come see him today. I had terrible diarrhea yesterday and was just wiped out. Woke up feeling terrible with rotten pain and it went away abut 90 minutes late. Crazy.

Scott, normally I would be so happy to see you posting again, but not for this. I hope Cameron will heal quickly and wish the poor kid would finally catch a break. He has been through far too much.

I know my friend and I really do appreciate all the love you "guys" have shown for a kid you have never met. Everything was going so well for him and this was the last thing he needed, but I am confident that he will get through it with the help of the a girl who he really loves and she loves him just as much. She is a nurse and will take care of him and make him do the right things.

Oh goodness! I hope everything turns out and he gets well soon.
Thank you my friend. He will push through as he always does but I just don't understand why he has to go through so much. If was an assbag and horrible person in a previous life then Karma smack my ass but not my kids.

We’ve talked on FB about this, and I know you would anyway, but make sure he gets his op report and runs it past Dr K (I started to tell YOU to do it, but then I remembered Cam is an adult and he needs to do it ).

To put a “positive” spin on it, on a scale of 1-10, I’m guessing this will end up being a 4 of what he’s gone through, once he’s healed up. A month from now, he should be mostly back to “normal.”

Yeah it helps that his girlfriend with whom they just got a place together is a nurse at OSF where he is and she works in neuro rehab which is literally 20 rooms down from Cameron. So she can check in on him while she is working and when he gets home she can make sure he is doing what he should be doing.

My worry is that he already has a lot of pain from past gut surgeries and that he is going be a hernia and scar tissue/adhesion factory....but we will see.

Thanks

DSRIGGS Scott, I am so sorry to hear of Cameron's emergency. :( I wish him swift healing and hope his pain is well-managed.

Sounds like he's recovering well. I'm so glad, and you must be so relieved.
