Sorry to be polluting the board with such topics of late, but I'm having another issue I'd like to hold court on...

I've been having to go #2 up to 8 times a day lately. Obviously, as the day wears on not much comes out, but it still feels relatively urgent. Having to go so frequently leaves me sore.

I've also been waking up earlier and earlier to go. Last might my body woke me up at 1 am to go #2. It woke me up a few more times before my usual 6:30 alarm.

Does any of this have to do with the fact my gallbladder was removed 6 weeks ago? In general, stools have been a lot looser since the surgery. Occasionally I even have outright diarrhea, something that's never been a problem for me since the DS.

I long for the days of going 2-3 times in the morning and that's it.

Any thoughts?

Same answer as for farts - Flagyl cleanout and repopulation.

Along with an elimination diet to see if you are sensitive to something - milk, fake sugars (especially X'itols), spinach (sadly, my gut kryptonite), etc.

I did a Flagyl cleanout and repop 6 weeks ago when I had my surgery. I eat the same stuff now as I did pre-op (inc. taking same probiotics). Only thing that's different is loss of the GB. Any possibility it's that?

Removal of gall bladder can cause diarrhea, which is almost always temporary (permanent in about 1% of people). And then again some people don't experience this. No way to know at this point if that is your problem, but it could be.

If that is the case, how long does it normally take to resolve (if it's going to resolve)?

I looked this up, and found answers varying from "soon" to "a few weeks" to "forever". I didn't find this helpful and doubt you will either. You could try Imodium as a temporary measure, or cholestyramine, which binds bile in the GI tract, might help.

I tried Imodium and it did NOTHING which kind of concerned me. The doctor offered me Cholestyramine, but I had to wait a few days for it and, by the time it arrived, everything seemed resolved. But now it's back. Maybe I'll ask for it again. Yeah, "a few weeks - forever" That narrows it down! I was hoping that since I already had the DS it wouldn't make much difference....

You wouldn't think it would make much difference after the DS, given that your gall bladder was draining into the BP limb before it was removed. And maybe it isn't the culprit. Maybe @DianaCox got it right re: the antibiotics and all that.
And here's a cheerful thought - have you been tested for C diff?

Yikes. No I haven't. Maybe I'll ask Kaiser for C diff test. Thanks!

Sorry to hear this. I had bile acid diarrhea after my GB was removed (along with parts of my pancreas and liver) and while I needed to be on Creon. Welchol worked very well in addressing the resulting bum burn. Hope you feel better soon.
